Also OP, if your budget allows, you can get an Aimpoint Micro and that, with it's lowest mount, should sit even lower than a PRO.
It was either a Warne or Leupold scope ring. I've used both manufacturers before, but I can't remember which one is pictured. I used the quick release version, so there is a lever on the other side that allows you to easily remove the optic and reinstall without losing zero.

Aimpoint PRO, you'll find the mount it comes with to be too tall even with spacer removed, so I set the mount aside, Vortex low tactical ring, ARMS #18 mount, and BlackHawk IVS cheek rest, and yes, Black Hawk Down was my inspiration for this rifle.

I really like this setup, but, the mount is so low you can have ejection issues like I experienced, so, I've moved the ring as far forward on the rail as it will go to clear the ejection path as I noticed some brass dings on it, yet to get out to the range and recheck...

I have 2 questions for USSF06 : Did you experience any ejection issues or had to do any tuning? And yeah, I'd like to know more about your scope ring...

Thanks from SGT John SWF

I'm 99% sure that is a warne brand ring.

Someone with a Bula XM21 needs to put a aimpoint on and try it out.

I had zero ejection issues with the setup pictured. I can probably find a picture of the other side of the mount to verify if it's Warne or Leupold.

SFC Shughart's rifle was my inspiration as well. I ended up selling the SOCOM to try and replicate the real deal.

Holy crap those are both some sweet looking rifles! I am now more motivated in the aimpoint direction. I guess I just want more feedback to see if the ejection issue will be a major issue.

The ARMS 18 looks like a good way to go. I mounted my Aimpoint on a Sadlak and it's up there pretty high with the Sadlak.

So your THAT guy! I read your awesome thread from a couple years ago about the building of that rifle, you did painstaking research as to what they would have had available or carried during the 1993 MOG Engagement, Aimpoint 3-5000's on Brookfield mounts, you sent that stock off for custom paint that would match the landscape of that region, damned awesome tribute rifle!

The movie "Black Hawk Down" being made around 2001, they took liberty or didn't do the research you did, the movie guns appeared to have Aimpoint Comp 2-3's on an ARMS #18 with split rail, still cool though. I took all this into consideration, decided I wanted the lowest setup for a standard M1A without breaking the bank and still have quality, also use what's currently commercially available without having to hunt for decades old stuff, as they say : I did it my way...

It shot great first time out, had a few ejection hiccups so I moved the ring/scope far forward, has the benefit of making that 2 MOA dot just a tad smaller on target, if it still hiccups next step to be change ejector or get a 3 pack of springs, tune it by cutting 1 coil at a time.

Thanks from USSF06

Strange! the top photo of the whole rifle I originally posted is gone, replaced by something else the size of a postage stamp. What gives? How did that happen? Weird...Edit : Now my top picture is back again, WTH is changing images around? Very strange...
