They knowingly put the lives of American service members and law enforcement officers at risk. Period. Send it back and get your money.

Send it back and request full MSRP for your optic, they're approving up to that amount.

Then buy an Aimpoint.

I checked the EO tech website and couldn't find any info on the refund-----How does one apply for the refund?

Thanks

Send it back and get your full refund while you can. Even if you are not having issues with yours, the resale value will not be good due to the issues they are having.

Then do what cmshoot suggested, get an aimpoint. I've shot them for years on my work weapons and my personal weapons. I've trusted my life to aimpoints in war zones.

I have a pair of 553's that I'm on the fence about sending back or selling outright. One I bought brand new and the other used. If I send it back it doesn't seem that it will be a quick turn around. Reading around the web the natives are restless already wanting their money and Eotech seems to be overwhelmed.

The new unit was bought in 2007. The used one I couldn't see getting full retail for since I didn't pay that and it's been used pretty hard.

Unless you're an "operator", I doubt you'll ever see the conditions that cause problems in the EOTech. If I was an EOTech person, I'd keep it. I much prefer Aimpoints, though.

eotech

no far from a tier one guy..........lol . I just want a 400 dollar optic to work right as advertised. plus how they knew it had problems and still sold it to the military, that's pretty shady in my book. so aim point here I come! thanks for the replies.

ps. to the guy that was asking ,there is a tab for returns and repairs on the eotech site click that and fill the form out. they will send you a approval in your e mail.

Thanks from habu1 and bomberbill

I have 2 EoTechs, one is a 552 and its been back to EoTech for repair once, the other one is a 551 and it's well used and has never lost its zero but I'm sending them both back for a refund and going with Aimpoints.

This is a timely read http://progunfighter.com/eotech-refund-update/

The thermal drift is there, and the original temps quoted have come down recently to levels that one would see storing the gun in a trunk of a vehicle in somewhat normal (for us) summer temps (90's at times), and just freezing during the winter. It didn't seem to me that you needed the optic to experience the entire range for it to show drift, just reach one end of the spectrum (but not 100% on that).

Temp drift aside, they showed they are NOT parallax-free as advertised under most conditions. Therefore being aware of a consistent/repeatable cheek weld is recommended if you keep it.

My agency is dumping the few we have (90% Aimpoint; anywho). The individual owners that want to keep theirs, we've been recommending co-witnessing with irons, and keeping the irons upright/visible through the sight when in use (AR platforms). Songs nstantly visible if somethings really out-of-whack.

If your going to send it in... the window for a refund might be limited, so do not delay your decision.

I would send it in for a full refund. I have always been an Aimpoint guy so thats were my refund money would go. Recently I have tried the Vortex Sparc II and have had good results. Not Milspec but seems to be a solid piece of gear.

Not just "operators" are seeing these issues. I have seen Eotechs fail on a Georgia fall day during classes I've taught. Dump them and get Aimpoints. Haven't seen one of those fail......yet.

1. The idea that the failure is going to be limited to "operators" is outrageous.

The Optic will experience significant shift at temperature ranges found commonly in North America. For example, if you zero your optic at 70 degrees (fall, or indoor range), your zero will be off on a mild winter or summer day. It will be VERY off on a hot summer day (anywhere in the South/Southwest) or very cold winter day (anywhere in the NE/N/Mountains).

2. The optic is not parallax free. This affects everyone. One of the top selling points for me was that wherever the reticle appeared to your eye, that's where the bullets went. (based on zero, etc). The optic being zerod to the gun and not between the gun and the user was a big plus to me. This NOT being the case is bad.

3. The gas seal sucks. This is obviously bad for everyone. Having fog inside of your optic that you can't clean off is terribad.

If one of the biggest selling point for you with the EOTech was the amazing reticle, spend a little more money and get an Accupoint. on 1x, it'll be as fast as an Aimpoint, Trijicon quoted me $78 to refresh the tritium (not bad for a once every 12+ years expense), and it has a crystal clear 4x for taking longer shots. All while offering Trijicon quality robustness.

Not all the issues have to do with extreme temperature changes. Like the battery contacts issue. I have been observing that issue since the late 1990's and it still has not been resolved. The bad thing about issues like that is that there is no warning; you're in the middle of shooting, got nice fresh batteries, and suddenly you've got no reticle. Kinda hinders your accuracy a mite.

I've been involved in the use of Eotechs since the late 1990's. Bought a few back then......the SWAT Team I was on used them on all our entry guns as well. i got rid of my personal ones after numerous issues and went to Aimpoint. Haven't had an issue since and I've owned 6 Aimpoints of 4 different models. Sometime after I left the PD and went Fed, my old SWAT Team switched to Aimpoints as well.

I see thousands of shooters a year come through my classes. I'm still seeing issues with Eotechs of all models in the hands of my students. Doesn't happen all the time, not even in every class, but it's not uncommon, and I assure you I ain't teaching classes at -40 or 122 degrees F!

What if your weapon is stored in the trunk of a vehicle in one of our Georgia summers? I guarantee the temp gets over 122 degrees F in there. You have to retrieve it and deploy it and you've got a 4MOA shift in POI. Could be catastrophic.

To date, haven't seen an issue with a single Aimpont in any of my classes. In my professional observations, the reliability of the Aimpoint over the Eotech is overwhelming.
