Hello.
I'm an italian guy with a M14 (semiautomatic due to the italian law).

I would compete in italian "EX ORDINANCE" contest with my M14 and I'm looking for a scope.

I must demonstrate with pictures or documents that this scope (or better his replic) was used in some war o some police department or some military competition on a true M14/21 prior 1960.

What kind of scope I must mount?

I've this weaver rail

Many thanks!

thats one of the bushnell elite scopes. no military uses them but a police force might. you can look into swfa super sniper scopes. in fact head over to swfa's website and look to see what they have to offer that fits your budget...

Paisano, I don't think there were any scoped M14s prior to 1960. If so, only the early m21.
(Bottom rifle) which utilizes an M84. M84s are indisputable Military scopes as they were only made for military usage (M1D and 1903a4)...

You can buy a pretty decent M84 replica for $200 - $300 dollars and mount it in 7/8" rings. The mount it is on below is an Army Weapons Command (AWC) mount that allows you to mount a G&H mount (used on M1Cs and still sold commercially) but the AWC mounts are next to impossible to find.

I read this on Sniper Central..

One of the things that made the M21 a successful sniping system during the Vietnam War was the ultra-simplistic means of range estimation that would also automatically adjust the scope for ballistic drop at whatever range the scope estimated the target to be at. This was known as the Auto Ranging Telescope, or ART, and it was designed by James Leatherwood. These original ART setups on the M21 used a Redfield 3-9x scope and there were two distinct versions of the setup through the M21's life time. The Leatherwood name now appears on a very similar setup to the original ART and it is the same concept and even carries the same ART title, but are they as effective as the original? There is only one way to find out.

You can find it here. First paragraph. http://www.snipercentral.com/leatherwood.phtml

But I doubt if it was prior 1960..

The only one I can think of MIGHT be the lyman alaskan or perhaps the M84D scope. The m84s are made as reproductions nowadays, not sure of the quality but probably Chinese.

If you can squeak in the 1970s then pretty sure the IDF used Kahles and Photonic scopes at that time.
