Bought a Millett

After looking at bunches of scopes that I couldn't make up my mind on, I settled for a Millett LRS, just got it today. Damn, is it big. I don't believe it will be an issue though, for long range I shoot off a bipod or bags. I have a Fulton DMR mount coming, and am using Millet rings, since they're about the only place to get 35mm rings anyway. Scope is a 6-25x56, 35mm tube, has a Mil-dot lighted reticle. The turrets are 1/4 MOA per click.

I read a boatload of reviews, about 30 in all, and nobody gave it less than 4 stars, most gave it 5. Several reviewers were using this on either a .338 Lapua or a .50 BMG, they raved about how bright the image is and how well it holds a zero under the kind of recoil they have. It's maybe a bit of overkill for the Springfield, but what's the saying?? Go Big or Go Home. Will report on it once it's mounted and I get it zero'd.

Compulsory picture, scope is just set in place to get an idea of position.

When I first took it out of the box, I thought it belonged in a domed building with sliding doors on the top, with a couple of guys looking at Saturn through it.

I compared it to the 1" tube scope on my .308 bolt gun, and it isn't any longer, but that big tube sure makes it look bigger.

I've had an LRS on my rifle for about four years now and it's been a good performer. I've taken shots out to 1100 yards with it and made hits. I am currently in the market to upgrade but the Millett is hard to beat for the cost.

That's good to know. Sometimes it's difficult to accept reviews on Amazon; it's almost like somebody wrote them as positive advertising sometimes, and if you don't know the person, it's hard to get a feel for what they know. "Good scope for the money" was said in several reviews, and it's not a cheap scope.

I got my Fulton mount and set of short rings for it today, just got it mounted. I hope I can get to the range soon and get it zeroed.

I'm making one as we speak. Leather, will lace on so it can be snugged to the stock. Inside will be lined so it doesn't scuff the wood over time. I'll post pictures once it's done. I'm patterning it somewhat after the M1 riser, but will work for an elevated scope instead of an offset one.

I have had several of their scopes over the years. the trs-1 and dms have all worked well for me. No complaints about the dms at all. The trs has that over sized paralax knob that looks like hell. The trs occasionally slip out of zero, weren't always repeatable. Also had issues of tracking from time to time. The lrs is too much scope for me. I've heard several complaints on image quality for me to drop the coin on one. While they may not all have that issue, I don't want to chance it. To me if I'm willing to spend that much, I might as well save up a couple hundred more and buy a vortex pst. Down to one dms now and it sits on my ar where it works splendidly. My next purchase will be another pst though. Enjoy your scope, let us know how it holds up on your rifle.
