Fraser Dioptometer

What exactly does the dioptometer do and is it considered collectible?

I think it measures the diopter of a lens, but would not swear to it.

If you don't know what it is, I doubt you collect them :)

I see one that is for sale that is current that advertises that it helps determine a zero diopter condition, which would be a cool thing to have, thought I'm not sure how much I'd pay for it.

I may take it to the local national guard armory and let them have it. Apparently the military has used them for years. I certainly don't collect them but I'm sure someone in the world does. It is illegal to export them without a license and special permission from the government which makes me uneasy about even having it. Should have left the old tool box closed up.
