What Sight Paint to Use?

I am looking for a recommendation from the forum on what gun sight paint to use that is good for day use (bright and visible) and glows in the dark for night use. I have a couple of rifles that have no green, red, or white dot that glows in the dark on the front sight. Sure I can spend a couple of hundred bucks and buy tritium sights that glow in the dark. But I would rather not if there is a more affordable alternative. Any recommendations? Please advise.

Just a question, if you are relying on this handgun for self defense, (I assume in a low light situation) where you are protecting the lives of yourself and your loved ones, why would you use a paint instead of a trijicon self illuminated sight?

Is it just for range or having fun? if you look at what the pros use, those that use theirs for defense of self and others, I doubt you would find them just painted. I don't know.
I know that I have the trijicon sights on my primary and there is no question they work good. My local smith installs them on all of the North Dakota bureau of investigation glocks.

Just my opinion.

I have Trijicon sites on my WWII vintage colt 45. Had the colt modified by a shop in Michigan recommended by Trijicon so that the gun can accept the Trijicon sights. I have plenty of professional grade military optics on most of my handguns and battle rifles. I am focusing on more for fun type firearms. I am talking about rifles. Not necessarily rifles I use for self defense but for fun including a German made air rifle made by Weihrauch.

Thanks hammonje. I have a 1911 Officer’s model that I bought in ’93. The cavity on the front sight is filled in with white. The cavities on the rear sight were never filled in so I filled them in with Pentel Correction Pen; it’s easily removed with lacquer thinner. This was a temporary work-around. The information you provided is a much better solution. Thanks.

My question is if you are in the dark and can see your front sight (fine) what the hell are you aiming at?
A shadow ? Movement? Sound? If your target is 6 feet away you are not really going to aim are you?
I would think if you know your wife is still in Bed it would be a point and shoot.
Tell me all about it guys!
