Trijicon ACOG?

Ok so I am looking at getting either a Trijicon Acog (havnt decided on model yet) or Aimpoint red dot.....
I have an EOtech 512 on my AR and I love it, but I acquired a second AR and I am thinking of one of these two optics...

I know the Aimpoint is a great sight, durable, and great for close up shots and fast shots. I have also used aimpoints in my life and i like em.

I like the ACOG because it gives you the magnification, I like the reticles, but Im not sure how fast they are with closer distances? I have never used these sights before.

How difficult is it to use the ACOG for shots 25-50yds? Is the transition from close range to mid range tough?

For those of you who use aimpoints or eotechs how difficult was it to get adjusted to the ACOG?

I normally shoot my AR between 25-200 yds. With alot of shots going out between 100-200yds.

Thanks guys in advanced.

the acog and browe are both designed for the ar15.

an acog is a poor choice for an m1a

it sits too high and doesnt have proper eye relief.

acogs were great i really liked my ta31, but now we have these great 1-5x24mm sights. they have almost three times the eye relief and are available from all major optics outfits.

get one with an illuminated first focal plane ret, and you will have the benefits of a red dot and an acog.

OP, I get what you're saying; however, from a quick glance at Larue's website, you could get a 2MOA Aimpoint PRO AND a 3X magnifier - both on LT mounts - for right at $1100.

Compared to this ACOG - my favorite one - it might be worthy of consideration.

HTH, and good luck with your purchase.

ETA - or go the route that Dresden suggested for the same coin as the Aimpoint combo...maybe slightly more, brand dependent.

A couple of you guys thought the ACOG was for my M1A, reading my post again i can see how you might have missed what I said. Its fine.

Right now I run iron sights only on my standard M1A, I really like the sights on that gun. The ACOG would be for my new AR-15 i got.

Thanks for the advice so far guys. I am looking at the Browe BCO, it looks like a good sight, around the same price as the Trijicon. I will have to research that one, as I know nothing about them.

Army CPT, I did consider going that route, the aimpoint with magnifier. My only concern there is that the magnifier would make the dot look really big and block out my target?? Does that happen with the magnifier?

My main pull for the ACOG is not needing batteries for it, and of course its reputation. Its a really tough decision right now, cause i'm not a wealthy guy so when I put down 1k plus on an optic I want it to be what I really want.

Im gonna hit up some local gun shops and see if they have any ACOGs i can look through. Maybe ill just be better off with the aimpoint and magnifier... Lifes decisions can be really hard to make sometimes hahaha.

^ Well, in regards to your comment, your target will also look bigger. 2MOA will still be 2MOA. But I get what you're saying - from what I understand, the 2MOA models came on the market as a response to the magnifiers.

The more I think about it, the more I like the whole "get a 1-x variable" option. There are some really good ones out there...

when you use an aimpoint and mag you dial your brightness down . the dot is see through so it doesnt block out the target .

look through acog. the reticle (due to 4x mag, no fault of manufacturer) is pretty small. if you read reviews of prism sights like the acog you fijd lota of complaints about reticle size. well for the bdc to work it has to be thats size. food for thought.

the battery thing is a non issue, the toughness is shared by the aimpoint. in fact aimpoint may be tougher.

if your buying this to punch paper the acog and the aimpint mag are POOR choices. you need a real scope for paper target shooting.

Cool, thanks for clarifying the red dot and magnifier up for me.

I am buying it to kill some paper, possibly some apples at distance too haha. But im not LE so none of my guns are duty guns. (however i like to have the best anyways.) But I do like to practice "combat style?" I guess shooting, where alot of the time, Ill set up multiple targets at varying ranges and practice drills, running and gunning pretty much, having fun, doing transitions, mag changes etc...

I have my own place to shoot, so i set up targets all over and just have fun. Thats the reason I was asking about the ACOG at closer distances, I dont ever just sit at a bench and shoot. Ill run around, drop to prone, kneeling, standing shots, shooting behind cover etc.. All the fun things to do while shooting.

Personally I would go with a lower maginied Acog...those things have amazing glass and work great. They are pricey, but they do work as designed. They have 2x and 3x model I believe. Red dots are just that...a boring old red dot...seen one you've seen em all and I've tested an reviewed most on the market.

TA33-H with a green reticle would be my personal choice for what your planning on doing.

It is proven the human eye can distinguish more shades of green than any other color which make the green reticle a no brainer...the reds and ambers tend to wash out in super bright light.

seen em all?

have your tested this bad boy?

a peq and a aimpoint micro made sweet electro love a d spawned this baby.

I like all 3 and own all 3. If between 100-200 as stated I like the lower powered ACOG. I like the reason you stated about not needing batteries.
I have not met anyone who has purchased an ACOG and wished they hadn't. I do know people who have purchased the other two and wished they had gotten something with a little magnification.

I would personally roll with the ACOG as you currently already have a Eo. I don't neccesarily see the point of having two red dot systems vs having one red dot optic and one 4x optic.

FWIW, I love my ACOG and with a bit of practice I was able to engage CQB targets with relative ease with both eyes open. It does take some getting used to as you are focusing purely on the target and letting the chevron "bleed" through and trick your eye

He said close range so that would be perfect for shooting targets or apples as he said....

Oh and if you do plan to use the TA33 that I pictured for presicion shots, you can always drop your POA to the very top of the elevation post, which you will notice is illuminated like the reticle...that can be used for longer work
