Dutch:

Congrats on your new scope. I have a low Piccatinny Rail Bassett Scope Mount and I really like it.

Do a search on the forum for "Bassett" and you should get threads about it from the members who have commented positively.

Your greatest decisions about a Bassett Scope Mount are: "Which one...low or high mount; Picatinny Rail or Standard?"

Whatever you choose, Bassett or not: Enjoy!

Regards,

Hey Dutchman:
One thing is, what is your end use ?
Are you going to leave the Mount on the Rifle or mount, dismount, on and off ?
Do you plan on using your Iron Sights while the Mount is attached to the Rifle ?

If you are going to leave the Mount on and NOT remove it often and/or not use your Iron Sights, then look into the Sadlak Mount....Best Mount for this application
http://www.sadlak.com/si_rifle_parts_sm.html

If you are going to mount and remove the Optics, repeatedly, on and off, then the Bassett Mount is best
If you are planning to use your Iron Sights, then you need to look into one of the Bassett High Mounts
For more available Scope (fore and aft) positions, then the Picatinny Mount is the one you need

Hope this helps

Since Mr. Bassetts passed, I wonder if these are now going to become unavailable? Is someone else going to produce them?

I love mine. Ive had it for about 4 years and this thing has never missed a beat. Also, one of the most repeatable mounts Ive ever used. Its not fancy- it just works.

Bassett Low Picatinny Mount with Burris Xtreme Lows

I use Burris Lows (1/4") for my Vortex PST Viper 2.5-10 x32 on the Bassett Picatinny Low mount.
The rear iron sight is set at 100 yds. It will just clear the magnification adjustment ring if I were to position the ring over the elevation sight.
Burris Xtreme Mediums are 1/4" higher.
I installed a cartridge deflector under the scope to protect the knob from ejected cartridges. I don't seem to need it but good insurance.

My personal experience, there is no removable mount out there that maintains POI. Check out the post 147 of page 10 http://m14forum.com/accuracy/159256-official-m1a-1-5-moa-challenge-10.html Check out other groups posted and see if there is shift in POI. The Brookfield and variants like Sadlak are the ones that truly maintain the POI, but these I do not consider removable. Maybe I will refer to them, not easily removable.

I believe the problem is with the mount.

The rifle shoots well, precision is there, but the accuracy of the optics system is not, meaning look at the changing POI, while the POA was maintained, and there were NO adjustment made to the scope during the entire session. I talked to JY about this issue, his experience mirrors mine. One time I was checking my long range load, independent 5 five groups on 5 different targets averaged inside a minute , the composite of the 5 groups averaged inside a minute, but when I measured the composite relative to the POA, due to the changing POI, the group was wider than the composite from 4 different targets by just merely measuring the groups and taking the average. I know the scope I used was good, and almost bomb proof, the NXS 5.5x22x56.

Here is the classic example of precision vs accuracy. This is not to mislead anyone, you can shoot the group anywhere on the target while maintaining POA as long as the group remains in the same area, it is the same as shooting for the middle, it is just a exercise in adjustment, but when the groups shifts from one another, that is an accuracy problem.

Art Luppino's 10 shot group inside a minute is hard to do, make that 20 shots, it is not 2x harder, it is much more.

I have the Bassett low mount with picatinny. Very solid/easy to put on and take off. I originally wanted the high mount so I wouldn't have to remove it to use the irons but issues at the manufacturer forced me to take the low mount which was fine since I don't have to use a cheek riser when using my LER scope that used to be on my scout rail.

I have low mount w/ picatinny.

6x24 Vortex Viper 50mm, Leupold medium rings

I have to tighten before shooting. I have gone through 300 rounds getting used to set-up. Maybe heat-up / cool down loosens mount.

I am still learning to shoot 200+ yards...POI get real sloppy, real fast!!!

Too many years playing w/ AR's I suppose...

Hard & expensive to scope rifle...Basset is probably cheapest of high cost / high quality mounts.

YMMV

One thing;
You gotta keep the Threads on both the Mounting Bolt and the Boss VERY clean
Zero Lubricant can be present on these Threads....ZERO !
After cleaning your Receiver, clean the Threads in the Boss and on your Mount Bolt with Alcohol or Acetone
And NEVER over tighten the Mount Bolt
I run a few hundred Rounds each Range Trip and my Mount doesn't loosen or loose Zero
Hope this helps
