Leupold / SOCOM, 2014 Christmas Wish List

I'm looking for some opinions. Occasionally, I can pick up a Leupold from a connection I have.

Looking to the future, I may build a SOCOM and set it up for a point and shoot, 300 yard unit. Mount would be on a LRB integral rail (M25).

Which Leupold would be preferred for that type setup?

Thanks,

Hobo

Here is what Leupold recommended:

If you are going to be mounting right over the action, out to 300 yard, my first
recommendation would be something like our Mark 4 MR/T 1.5-5x20mm or 2.5-8x36mm.
We do have a 3.5-10x40mm power in our Mark 4 LR/T line if you prefer, but that
seems like a lot of magnification for 300 yards.

Hope this helps,
Michael

Hobo, I went down this road, I'm not quite at my destination but this is what I did and am going to do:
I have an LRB m25 socom, I have the sadlak extended rail on it and run my aimpoint T1 on it and also a Leupold mark 4, however I'm going to buy the Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5X20 MR/TM2 Matt with Illuminated Special Purpose Reticle.

I'm super torn between keeping a traditional stock or moving into one of those....

As far as the scope, Nikon makes great glass for the price. They have 7.62 BDC reticles as well. Check them out.

If you have the hookup at Leupold, my recommendation would be the VX-6 1-6x24 with the firedot reticle. Gives you a true 1x at the bottom for both eyes open fast shooting and a 6x at the top for target identification. Plus an LRB M25/Socom will shoot farther than 300yds if you need it to so the 6x helps for a longer shot if necessary. Supposedly the firedot is daylight bright as well and you could get the CDS turret and have load specific ballistic compensation all in one package.

I'm with saiyan on this. I have the aimpoint on my socom and it works well. I wish it was the delta dot but maybe someday. I like the 1-6 idea though.....ALOT!!!!

Buy optics according to how you want to use the rifle. If you're always on a square target range and never using it for 3gun or whatever I don't see why not to get at least a 10x scope. However if you're going to be hunting in brushy country, or using it for CQB/carbine courses then obviously a 1-4 or Aimpoint is preferable.

You could also just use open sights, assuming your vision is good.
