steiner police vs military/marine model

Can someone tell me what the differences are between the Steiner binocular models police 10x50 and the military /marine 10x50. Is it just the color. The price on the police model is $130 cheaper.

Also Is the durability of Steiner as good as they claim? Anyone ever have any problems with their products?

The military/marine will have the mil reticle for range estimation, not sure on the police model but that may be the difference, just something to check on.

The military/marine models have a metal chassis and are pretty rugged, but they are also huge and heavy. You may want to spend some time with them and decide whether they are really something you would want to carry around your neck for any length of time.

My favorite binos are my Steiner Safari 8x30s. Awesome optics, compact, and they have a polycarbonate plastic of some kind for the chassis instead of metal. I have been lugging them around for years and they are still straight and true. great binos. I gave my dad a set of the same for Christmas many years ago, and they are still his favorites also. he used to complain LOUDLY about how many sets of binos he had gone through where the chassis warped or got bent so that you would have to tweak them in your hands to get the two images to line up. Not so with the Steiners.

Hope this helps.

It depends on which model of “military /marine”

I have an old pair of 10X50 “military / marine”, they are green armored, but they do not have the reticle ( I wish they did)

I have had them for over 30 years, I have not taken the best care of them, but they work just like they did the day I got them.

They are heavy, if I were to do it again I would probably go with the 7X50 of maybe the 8X30. The 8X30 would be quicker to scan and acquire your object ( good for hunting ); the 10X50 would be good for long range observation.
