Hi. I have been looking for a compact scope for my M1A, but so far haven't had much luck finding anything in my price range that I was comfortable with. Then I remembered I had a Weaver 4X16 on my 22/250 before I switched to the Simmons. I had put more than 2000 rounds through the rifle and the Weaver did its part as long as I did mine. That was around 15 years ago.

I couldn't remember where I put it so I asked the better half. She told me it was in the front closet on the top shelf. Sure enough there it was. She annoys the hell out of me. She can put something away 40 years ago and remember where it's at. Anyway I'm going to mount it on the M1A to get a feel for how well it is going to shoot using the new wood stock I got for it and the fiberglass stock that came with it using LC147gr. Now all I have to do is get a set of Weaver mounts. Sure hope one of the sporting goods stores in Hollister carry them. Don

I would suggest using Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr ammo, you should be able to hold 1 to 2 inch groups with it as long as you do your part and the rifle is in reasonable condition. It's usually precise enough to be able to evaluate changes made to the rifle.

The 147gr ammo isn't known for it's accuracy or precision so you end up with large groups of varying size and shape. When that happens it's difficult to determine if the ammo or the change to the rifle caused any changes that you will see on the target.
