Some folks say you should not pay a lot of money for a scope to go on a less expensive rifle.
I completely disagree.
I suggest you should get the best scope and mount you can afford and will be durable for the semi auto action. The scope, after all, guarantees (or doesn't...) your ability to consistently hit what you're shooting at.
A Schmidt & Bender is not unreasonable for the Polytech.

Never had one on a semi auto, but for their price point I am a fan of Meopta. You can get some nice ones for $350 with some shipping.
Or a used Zeiss 3-9x40mm in good shape. I try not to buy used, but I do like some Zeiss.

To those that recommended a Schmidt & Bender or Zeiss scope, your tastes are quite superb! Unfortunately, I think the point is forgotten. The gentleman wants optics around the $300.00 price point. The above mentioned optics are certainly high quality, but also high priced. The mounts alone would exceed the budget. I will stick to my recommendations. Mid priced Leupold will suit you fine.

You cannot beat it with a stick for the price. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/456...-reticle-matte
I have this scope... I've run a few mags of .308 through it, and it's holding up just fine. It has been reviewed on Snipers Hide as well.
Mark | No disrespect, but a few magazines of ammunition is not a test for a scope's durability. Try at least 1000 cartridges in different weather conditions. If this cannot be done personally, then read reviews. Or, read forums!!! |

Others have looked at this scope and it has been reviewed on snipers hide... and no, I don't have 1000 rounds through it... so I can't authoritatively state that it is going to go the distance.
What I can say is that out of the box and over the past 9 months it has performed well. It has not disappointed me and APPEARS well made at the price point we are discussing. Perhaps when I finish my Ph.D. in May I will have time to send a 1000 rounds down range before I PCS to my next duty assignment.

I respect higher education, but a Ph.D. in the field, is good for wiping my ass with, along with million dollar bills. I remember on a hunting trip, I had a few sodas, and I gave a pompous guy a couple to be nice. After asking for a third, and me responding with, " No ", He offered $5.00 dollars for one. I told him that my toilet paper was softer and more useful in the forest.
Just a thought...
Have you ever held a man's hand as he died?
What is your Ph.D. in and from what University? Since you brought it up...
50,000 rounds and counting...

I will second the suggestion to try a Leupold VX-R series. I recently mounted a patrol version 1.25 to 4 pwr. Excellent scope for steel ringing on my range. I find , for myself, that I really don't use the higher power settings on any of my M25 scoped rifles.

No I was too busy still doing CPR. What is your Ph.D. in and from what University?
Clinical Psychology, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Since you brought it up... 50,000 rounds and counting...
I've probably only got around 5,000 rounds under my belt. I was too busy getting laid. ;)
