| Springfield Armory Gen IV scope mounts
Greetings,
I'm new to this forum and i have a question I'm hoping you guys can help me with. I just bought a new Springfield Armory M1A Loaded with a NM barrel, sights and walnut stock. I want to put a scoope on it and was looking at the Springfield Armory Generation IV aircraft aluminum mounts. I was looking at the aluminum one so as to keep the overall weight down but because they are new I haven't heard a whole lot about them. Does anyone here use them? What can you tell me about them? Thanks!

| M1A scope mount
I have never used a Springfield mount, but I have friends who have. If your looking for a good solid M1A scope mount that wouldn;t break the bank check out Bassett Machine.
If price is not and option look at the Sadlak Steel mount.
I looked at both for my M1A and went with the Bassett because of the quick dis-mount/re-mount feature.
The Sadlak is best left on the rifle after instalation

When the mount fails (not if) you will wish you had spent a little more to get a quality mount. Don't waste your time with a Springfield mount and just get it right the first time with either a Bassett or Sadlak, you won't be dissapointed and you will only have to buy it once!

It's a chunk of aluminum. I can see it not fitting well due to an OOS receiver or manufacturing flaw with the mount, but it actually failing? Please tell. There are hundreds of thousands if not millions of aluminum mounts for assorted weapons platforms in use by militaries all over the world.
FWIW, I have a Bassett but ended up switching to an aluminum LT-608 for my EBR. My military service is over, and I don't intend to jump out of any planes with my M1A in the foreseeable future.

Fwiw, i have a bassett | locating keys fail, shoots loose and looses zero. Gen-1, 2, 3, 4, what does that tell you.
Keep the basset or get a sadlak.
If you got a safe queen, no problem, but if you shoot it will end up on here in the wts section. Its your dime.

| Aluminum mounts CAN work if designed properly ... Quote:

Gen-1, 2, 3, 4, what does that tell you. | The SA brand oif side mounts have a well earned reputation for not fitting properly and for shooting loose. With a side mount design, if the mount is not PERFECTLY fitted, and PERFECTLY tightened down, shear forces can overwork the side mounting screws. Add in the fact that SA M1A receivers are also notorious for having a high percentage of left side mount holes and locating slots, etc. out of spec. This can make fitting even other high quality side mounts of different brands a gamble.
This is one of the reasons I designed the M14.CA mount to use the rear sight ears as a mounting point, and mount ON TOP ... without using the receiver side mount hole at all. The rear sight ears are more consistently machined, provide a stronger mounting point, and are in line with the bore rather than off to the side.
Check out the M14.CA web site for a different approach to mounting optics on an M14. [;)
