m14 optics help

Guys, I am looking to put a scope on my poly m14. It seems to be a tack driver with iron, so I would like to see what it can do with some glass.

I am trying to decide between a Sadlak aluminum mount or a Basset low picitany rail mount. I think I am leaning towards the basset....

I am leaning towards a SWFA 10x or SWFA FF 3x9 scope.

Do yall have any suggestions on mounts or what is the better choice of glass?

Bubba04,
What kind of shooting are you doing. I have shot out to 500 + meters with a 10x and would not hesitate to shoot to 1000 with it. It is adaquate, simple and probably cheaper. I use a Shephard P2 scope on my hunting rig and it stays on 10 x all the time.

I plan on shooting this 200 to 500 yards. The ranges I have access only go to this distance.

I would like the ability to take it out to farther ranges though.

So you like the bassett mount?

I happen to have both scopes. Love them both. the 3x9 is very impressive. I actually wound up putting it on my rem700 because I hunt with it. The straight 10x is just too much scope for where I hunt. I have the 10x on my M1a. I am love it.Good clear picture. Precise reticle for Mil Mil adjustments. If I were just getting into the scope game I would go for the 10x. Also both the 10 and the 3x9 have enough adjustments in the turrets for you to shoot out to a grand. Go on youtube and search the SS. Snipershide does a great job with them.

I went with the Redfield 3x9x40 Revoulution. It is made by the folks that make Leopold IIRC. It has a BDC recticle and is a pretty nicely made optic for the money ($300). If you are looking for a good choice that wont break the bank, give it a look.

Do y'all have any issues with the basset low picitany mount and ejection issues?

I think righ now I am leaning towards a vortex 2.5x10x40 mil/mil with illuminated recital.

I have yet to shoot this with optics and am a little wOrried about how accurate this rifle is and do not want to waste the money on good glass only to have a crappy gun. That said my poly shoots pretty tight groUps at 50 yards with irons, so I think it should be in the 2 moa range or better.

Y'all got any ideas?

Forget that vortex. I know I did when a srated reading about the new weaver tactical 3-15x illuminated edmr. Go google it now and start reading. Its supossed to blow vortex out the water in every way. I had a vortex 2.5-10x or 4-16x at the top of my "what optic for my scout" list until I found the weaver. I don't own one yet so this is all bassed on what I have read. But I have read more than enough to make a believer out of myself......as you can most likley tell. Do youself a favor and read what I have read. Google is your best friend right now.

There were many things that sold me on it. I will be picking one up asap. The quote I liked best during my research was " its a $1200 scope for $700" and if its everything that folks are saying it is, then I would have to agree.
