Has it worked out ? I want a go to rifle and this seems like a reasonable set up. What rings did you use ?

It seems like a good set up for a "if I only had one rifle". However, I fear the real world trial might be disappointing. Hoping someone here had the set up.

5.00 starsDate Posted: 4/26/2006I installed my Shepherd Scope on my M1A NM in 1992. 700 rounds later it is still zeroed in 2006. The 168 Gr match bullet at 2500 FPS MV groups in each circle all the way out to 1000 yards, just like Shepherd says it should. This scope is now 14 years old with 700+ rounds fired in that rifle. Never out of zero, not once in 14 years.

5.00 starsDate Posted: 10/9/2008This is an update on the Shepherd P2. I loaned it out last fall to my friend, Gene, when his Leupold scope failed due to the cold. I have a Shepherd Shootist scope on my .35 Whelen, so I let him use the .30-06. He killed a nice 5x5 buck with one shot, about 10 minutes before dusk, and hit it through the heart at 400+ yards. This scope is now 12 years old. The Shootist model was bought in 1985, and is 23 years old. They both are doing fine. Between them, they've probably accounted for 20-25 deer.

5.00 starsDate Posted: 7/26/2009I have two of these scopes, one on a Colt HBAR in .223, and the other one is on a Bushmaster BAR 10 .308. Both scopes are the P2 model, so be sure your caliber will work with this model. Go to their web site for confirmation first. Sight them in at 100 yards, then all you have to do is read the wind, and pull the trigger. No turrent knobs to adjust, no charts to look up, just point and shoot!! You may wish to add the sunshade as it makes glare free shooting possible when shooting in late afternoon into the setting sun. I'm getting ready to purchase another one for a new rifle. I would not have any other scope. These things are the heat for hunting and competiton.

5.00 starsDate Posted: 4/5/2010This scope sits atop an FN FNAR in 308. With this combo, I dominate prairie dog towns out to 1000 yards almost effortlessly. The circles of POI make adjusting to various ranges quick and easy. The optics are clear out to the edge of FOV. Windage can be adjusted in the field quickly by using the second reticle to correct. After the day is over, move the reticle back to SAC zero and you are ready for the next session. I would highly recommend this scope.

5.00 starsDate Posted: 7/27/2010This is another update. I now own two P-2 Shepherd scopes. The second one is on a Remington CDL in 35 Whelen. It works great. With handloads, I can hit point of aim to at least 600 yards with the Sierra 225gr Gamekings, and 700 yards with the 250gr. Speer spitzers. This is at about 1500ft altitude. In Colorado, where I will use this rifle to elk hunt this fall, it will be either spot on or high out to 1000 yards. They also have a great service department, and they are as good as their word. I sent in an old Shepherd (a shootist) which I had bought in 1985 to have it checked out. They refurbished it completely with the exception of lens replacement, which it didn't need, and sent it back. I paid 15.00 shipping and handling, and have a 25 year old new scope. I now have 3 Shepherds, and I wouldn't spend that kind of money on something that didn't work. I'm a retired Army Infantry NCO and I know a good system when I use it.

5.00 starsDate Posted: 1/24/2012This scopes great and has simply the easiest, fastest way for determining ranges and putting a first shot right on target period. I have become effective at using the circles to determine distance, if I have time I check with a laser range finder but don't feel it is needed. The glass is very good but not awesome like Night Force. I have tried mine on a number of different rifles and did a little research to find the drops are (1) 0" (2) -3.98" (3) -14.25" (4) -31.86" (5) -58.05" (6) -94.2" (7) -142.13 (8) -203.98" (9) -282.93" (10) -380.9". I use a ballistic calculator, the bullets ballistic coefficient, and a chronograph to find an exceptionally accurate load that fits this drop. If I have to make an adjustment after I shoot to confirm the range I then make a cheat sheet to tape to the butt of the stock (+10" at 1000). I know it's a lot of work but because of it, I can and have made many one shot kills using this system to 900+ yards.

i know a guy who has a sheperd on all his rifles including his M14 type. i must say that the concept of these scopes is awesome and they are plain and simple: "killing scopes". they are not bench shooting scopes, but made for fast range finding in animal and human size targets. for whatever reason i never hear much about these sheperds.
we were both shooting our M14s at the range one day and i have the leupold mk4 mounted on mine. i liked his fast range finding reticle over my tactical ranging dials, but my leupold was much better glass. we were shooting into the sun and his sheperd was very prone to 'white-out'.
i do, however, think the sheperd would be a great scope for a killing machine like the M25 and M14s alike.
if you like to hunt, shoot or kill (whatever) at ever-changing long distances i could not think of a better scope.

| he had a shade on it. im not saying the scope is bad. im just saying that the leupold mk4 handled the white out better. it was a very minor criticism. we were shooting at dusk with the sun directly in our eyes. dont let that criticism convey that i dont like the shepard. i love it. i was just giving my limited experience with it in reference to another scope. in all honesty, any scope would have whited out in that case......for whatever reason though the leupold fought through it better.

| Take advantage of the research already conducted
Boston T Party writes at great length about this scope in "Boston's Gun Bible" including zeroing and the glass. Incredibly robust scope that can handle the 308 recoil and warrantied by an American Owned Family Business.
Master it and you will be deadly at unknown distances

I've a shepherd on my M1A and all my 'purist' buddies give me crap. I didn't go to sniper school or learned the mil-dot system, it just works.
BTW... where can I purchase a lens shade for my P2?

I have one scoped M14 type rifle. It has a Shepherd Enterprises P3 (3-10X40mm) scope with Smith Enterprise wire EDM low height scope rings. I love it. I agree with the comments above by Charlene32.
