I have a Vortex PST 2.5-10x44 but I haven't mounted it to a rifle yet. As soon as can scrape up the coin for a Sadlak mount, I will let you know how it all performs.

Thank You everyone. I have a much better idea of what magnification to use now. I definately am going to get used to the rifle with the irons, thats how I grew up shooting, but my eyes aren't any where near what they used to be (thats life). So my next question is about how to remove the stripper clip piece, so that way I can attach the scope mount. I want to do this in a manner that does not harm the rifle or parts either. I am a custom carpenter and mason, but I am no where near a qualified gunsmith. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

+1 for practice with the irons! When I use a scope, it is an old USA made steel tube Weaver Accutrac in 2.5X with a post recticle on a Bassett Machine Mount.

Remove the action from the stock, drive the roll pin up from inside the receiver into the clip guide, remove the guide towards the bolt stop (right to left looking down with the barrel facing away from you). May need to soak the clip guide with some sort of break free or apply ice to it.

I went with a Nikon Monarch 2-8X32. It looks great and sits very low with Burris Extreme low mounts.
