This stock listed on GB is either very rare or a total fake. Seller says it’s an early T44 stock, but yet it has no selector cutout and the cut by the bolt release looks typical of SAI stocks. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the T44 select fire? I'm thinking this is a commercial stock with a fake DAS applied.
I'd like to see somebody good make some re-pop "T44" type stocks, but they'd need to be sleeker without that proud overhang at the buttplate and no fake stampings. Pass.
Few seem to recall, but during the late 1980s prior to Capt. Crunch, GI m14 stocks were getting hard to obtain and M14 butt plates were through the roof on prices. SAI produced quite a few M1A rifles in stocks that used the Garand butt plate. They were commercial stocks made by Fajen as I recall. We were paying as much as $45 to $50 for a M14 butt plate assembly, a lot at that time.
The four or five original T44 stocks I have seen all came from NAS Crane, IN and they were all dark stained walnut and much slimmer than the fake shown. The fake does not have the age patina as well. T44 stocks tended to be rather thin walnut and actually a bit too thin for rough usage, IMO.
In the late 80’s/early 90’s, there was also a guy who came to the Southern CA gun shows with a lot of M1A stocks with Garand Buttplates that were new made, though I don’t think they were made by Fajen or Bishop. Some of his stocks were very high grade wood and were very nice, but his prices were so high that I don’t believe I ever ran across someone who actually bought the stocks. Still, his stocks were not meant to be fake T44’s and his stocks came closer than the fake in the link.
your right bill, i should have added e4, which is what i have.
mine came out of the h&r woodshop. has a slight flaw in it.
would have been burned up not for the fact i rescued it.
i do know the differece between them.
The hand guard definitely is commercial. The stock looks commercial from the butt plate applied. The picture also shows no cut for the selector switch. With the limited pictures, it looks commercial with a possiblly fake marking.
This version of the stock is available commercially.
