I'm thinking about trading my AR-15 pistol for a Daewoo DR-200. Are these Daewoo DR-200's good rifles? I like the design of the rifle and it looks pretty good. Just wanting to go a different route and get something more functional than an Ar-15 pistol. Whats you guys opinion on the DR-200. Its my understanding that these are gas piston rifles and take the same magazines as an AR-15? Am I making a good trade?

Hi Oldsman

I'm not familiar with that rifle. You can go on youtube and do a search for it and find out about everything you want to know, review, value. saw one on gunsamerica for 699 I think. What is the brand of your AR pistol.

I bought a kel tec plr16 off a guy that was hurting for money, gave him 400 for it. shot one 30 round mag through it, and with hearing protection I can say that it was the loudest thing I ever shot... the muzzleblast was incredible. Sold it to a guy I work with for a nice profit, and he was tickled to have it.

those short barreled ARs our really loud, yikes!

If I had an AR pistol that I could trade for a DR200, I probably would not hesitate. I have a Daewoo sitting on my piano bench as I type this.

They are pretty accurate rifles and the one I have is what I currently use to shoot a 200 yrd HP match.

The gas system is a combination of the AK and FAL. AK style piston with gas adjustment like the FAL. The bolt is like an AR bolt but the ejector is a piece fixed in the lower. The sights work well and are adjustable for windage and elevation.

There are some dress up parts available for the DR. If you come across one with a thumb hole stock, check out Ace for folders and lower packs to keep in compliance.

You can also check out Stormwerkz for rails and stock adapters.

Spare parts can be a pain, but there are some out there and more then a few people trying to make them more available.

Yea it has the thumb hole stock. The guy told me he bought it before the AWB. Luckily it comes with a bi-pod too. Its a neat looking rifle can't wait to get it. I know it was imported by Kimber. He's got the original recepit and all the paperwork with it. Maybe 2011 is starting off good.

They are a little tricky to dissassemble, and you can actually put it together wrong so it will not fire. Make sure the thingy on the piston goes inside the carrier, not behind it.

Have not fired mine much, seemed to be reasonably accurate. Maybe I should put a scope on it and see how it does. I also have a K1A1 that shoot much better than I ever expected.

I regret getting rid of my DR200 several years ago. Robust, accurate rifle. Had an Ace fixed pistol grip stock on it. Fired case ejection was extremely energetic. Mine would throw M193 round cases 20 feet. Let us know how it goes for you. Post a picture when you get it. Todd

The DR200 is a great little gun. I had one that was pretty much a safe queen and only had 100 rnds through it. Sold it to build a new AR. Parts can be hard to find sometimes. I put an ACE side folder on it and their kit comes with all the parts to be compliant..hammer, trigger, disconnect (same as AR) pistol grip and buttstock. Here is a pic of my old one with a side folder.

Good news, just picked my rifle up about an hour ago. Here are some pics of it. Seems like a nice sturdy rifle, can't wait to go shooting with it. Looks like it's going to be fun to try and take it down to lube. The rifle is clean like it just came off the factory line. Needless to say I'm very happy that I traded, I will deffiently get some use out of this one. The guy I traded with just called me up and said he loves the pistol I built. He also said that in the future if I'm looking in the future for another
Daewoo he has a much saught after DR300 is 7.62 Nato.

The DR300 is well known for bolts coming apart and blowing up the receiver,so I'd leave that one alone.I have a DR300 receiver as a paperweight on my desk (bought it for the rear sights.) Something about having less locking lugs on the bolt,as I recall. It is bulged out horribly from a Kaboom. That said,I love my DR200.

Shot my Daewoo this weekend and all I can say is wow!! That gun is awesome and fun to shoot. I really liked shooting it more than my AR-15. The rounds got ejected 30ft in front of me and to the right, was really suprised at this compaired to the AR. I can't wait to change out the stock, just can't decied if I want the skelton stock or the 6 position m4 stock. Which one would you guys go with.

I went ahead and went with the Ace skeleton stock, thinking about putting a Vortex sparc micro dot on it. I'll have to mess around with the gas settings. Not too familar with the gas system on this gun so I can always move it back if I don't like the settings.

I owned a Daewoo DR-200 rifle years ago, but it is gone because of my buy, sell, trade methodology of getting rid of rifles I should have kept.

My Daewoo would shoot better than every AR-15 I have owned except my Rock River Arms match rifle. It shot very well with Winchester white box 55g FMJ and 10 shot 1" groups at 100 yards were more common than not with iron sights.

I thought they stopped making the rifle and I don't know about parts availability. It appears to be a robust rifle and it would be very difficult to wear out.
