The panic is starting to fizzle....

I went to my local store that I buy ammo from and their shelves are full of Ruger 25rd mags at pre-panic prices. I even bought a BX-25 mag on the spot for $29. Another local store was selling them for $50. She says she has tons of mags in the back. She said they actually got a huge ammo shipment in but it was all gone very quickly and they are limiting purchases to 1 box per customer per day.

I noticed online that AR mags are only now 2x normal cost and remaining in stock. I also noticed that our beloved CMI mags are in stock at various places and pretty much remaining in stock. The only thing that hasn't shown signs of catching up is powder/primer availability and availability of Magpul mags.

Just sharing my observations.

Tony.

I still haven't seen ammo and it's still selling just as fast online. It's slowing down with mags but anything ammo related I think is still going strong.

I have been seeing most everything, including primers, powder and Pmags. They may not remain in stick for long, but I am seeing them. They are atleast tensing in stock longer than they were.
I figure more reloading components will become more widely available, as soon as the people that decided to start loading, realize that reloading isn't for them or they don't have the patience for it.

Just wait 'till the next gun related tragedy . . the Socialist-Progressive liberals are just salivating for it . .

then "Round Two" shall commence . .

I am ~trying~ to be optimistic . . but it gets old . .

Mags are available again which is good, and at almost normal prices. The problem that I see is that ammo is in stock at various locations but the prices are still sky high. I check www.bulkammo.com frequently and yesterday they had over 100k rounds of 5.56 in stock at $.85 per round. It obviously isn't flying off the shelves at those prices or it would be sold out. Now my guess is that they are sitting on stock waiting for the next "event" that will make customers justify those high prices. I can actually buy ammo at my LGS for less than the bulk online retailers. Doesn't make sense to me.

P.S. If the craziness is starting to die down then Shhhh! We don't want to jinx it!

Just me observing things in my own small corner of the world. Firearms tend to be slowly occupying shelf space again in stores along with magazines and other accessories. What still isn't taking up any space is any type of reloading component. One lgs has a little stuff but the owner has been busting his behind in efforts to get inventory - not just waiting on some warehouse to let some trickle his way.

I'm in the camp of the reasons still being people are buying up way more quantity than they normally would. I hear of guys buying 1k rounds of this ammo or 20+ pounds of that powder when, normally, they'd only buy, and use, a small fraction of that amount. I don't begrudge anyone buying what they want but it's sure aggrevating to try to buy something before someone else, who probably won't ever use it, snatches it up.

We have lots of firearms on the shelves and nothing but empty space that once held ammo.

But, there was one of 'those' people trying to sell 5.56 for a mere 1.50/rd in the want ads this weekend. and saw a can of 54R for a paltry $350. For real!

Things will turn back around though, but I don't think we'll see the prices of old, meaning early '08 prices.

Stay vigalent, its not over. Black and smokeless powder is next.

I can't wait for the flood of used equipment that will come when guys are trying to liquidate what they bought during the panic. Oh and they surely will be taking a loss if they want to move it.DI2

I was waiting for that to happen after the 2008 panic, and it never occurred. I was rationalizing it, wondering where people were getting the money for these purchases, because after all, we were supposed to be in an economic crisis/crunch. I remember being at a walmart, and one guy bought 5000 rnds of 9mm. I was hoping to get some deals a year or two down the road, but none of that stuff was put up for sale. I don't think it is going to be any different now. As some here already have said, another tragedy is likely to happen, and just yesterday the top of the hour MSM news on AM radio cited polls that Americans are growing more distrustful of government encroaching on liberties.

Regardless of who or what is causing the ammo shortage, it has not eased up one bit. Sorry CAVMAN but, some of it for certain calibers IS because of contracts that the FEDS want fulfilled, and also part of it is because of private sector buying.

Just because some of you found a few rounds at your local GS, it ain't happening any time soon.

Look at the online suppliers of ammo. I have about a dozen of them bookmarked.

Take Midway USA for example. The probably carry more different types of ammo in any given caliber than just about anyone else.

Their selection is HUGE.

Go to their site and browse through handgun ammo. 62 PAGES OF IT.

You have to get to PAGE 59 before you get to ammo that is NOT "OUT OF STOCK: NO BACKORDER".

The rest of the pages are "special order 30 days".

Now given the above….what do you think is going on? Ahh, but don't take MY word for it, go check them out yourself.

I've been able to keep just about everything in stock this entire time, it's just extremely hard to do it. Try getting up every morning at 3am to get on distributors websites to snatch things up as they put their new shipments in inventory. I'll admit my .223 is going 15$ a box, but my dealer cost on them is now upwards of 11$ a box. I do have a ton of M80 ball still that nobody has really touched since this all started. I even have every type of primer and just got 40lbs of 4895.

Everything is out there, you just need to look a little harder, and sometimes pay a little more. But it IS there.

....ah....where do you SELL this...!?!...I want it ALL...!!!...(screamer)

...if any is left I could actualy afford a coulpe thousand pimers and a few pounds of 4895...

...sorry to have put political spin in inapprorpiate forum...seemed relivent to topic...is where they will hit next after gun grab failure...is why panic far from over...people afraid to shoot...

...one cool thing aboot where I live...hear neibors (several) shooting almost every day...

Oh it's definitely not over. This scenario just played out in real time less than 1/2 an hour ago.
Date line Maine 3 pm eastern.

I get a phone call from my friend in Arizona, he says powder Valley has Tula primers in stock. I am driving down the highway in maine, pull over, turn on four way flashers and pick up phone to call powder Valley. A nice woman answered the phone and says how may I help you. I say I would like to place an order for some in stock Tula primers. She says online orders take precedent over phone calls so I should go to the internet and place my order. She stated she has had over 300 orders in the last 35 minutes. I hang up the phone pick up my tablet go to powder Valley and wouldn't you know it all the primers are out of stock. Total elapsed time from friend phone call to checking tablet 30 minutes. RNGR4

There were CMI 20 round mags at the local gun show this weekend for $33.00. I also saw some for $40 and $42. $33 isn't terrible if you need/want them now. 7.62x51 was there but yea, still about $1.00/round.....$12 to $15 for a 50 round box of .22LR...things do seem to be easing a bit. My local gun range has been running orientations right and left so people are still buying weapons and those weapons need ammo.

Who/what are you referring to as 'private sector buying'? Just Us?

Because as I have said a number of times here...
"We have met the enemy and he is us!"

I have read and read and read statements by the Big Dealers who say over and over again:
*Ammo IS in fact coming through the distribution system.
*Ammo is being Bought by Retail Customers as fast as it is being distributed.
*Just because Federal Agencies placed large orders...it does not mean all that ammo is being Delivered to the Feds! The Orders were multi-agency, multi-year orders fixing the cost for the goverment for several years to come...and according to industry insiders...is absolutely not the primary reason for ammo shortages...
It's almost entirely...what's the title of this thread?...Oh, yeah...

IT"S THE PANIC !!!

Sorry, but the argument here is just all circular...

Ammo is un-available>so when we find it, we buy it All, every caliber, even if we don't own a gun shooting that caliber, as much as we can, clean off the shelves, stock-pile it, trade-it for other ammo, guns, stuff...>Ammo is un-available>Must be a Conspiracy!>I Must Buy More!

Read all the different posts on all the different threads here and on other forums...
Same-same---"I just found .308 at Joe's! I bought all I could, then told all my friends to do the same! Damn, they're out already!? What's going on!? Something Sinister must be at work!"

Yes, private sector means US, WE. All the retail buyers who shoot in this country.

You can believe what ever you want to. Whatever they tell you if it makes you feel good. What do you think that they are going to tell you, huh? That they have no ammo, haven't been getting any in quantity, and they have no handle on when the hell they will have it again in quantity?

That's why Midway has "no backorder" on 90% of their ammo listings. As I said, Midway is probably one of the biggest wholesale buyers of ammo and they have practically none.

Try to buy some, there isn't any there. A little drip here, a little drab there, -which adds up to nothing.
