I'm new to the forum & my M1A Scout, (New in the Box). I've lusted for one since I was 14 years old, Finally got it!! I'm not a novice shooter, grew up shooting all sorts of long guns, spent 5 years in the Infantry, but I am new to the M1A.

Just a little background and I have searched & will act on some info I've already learned about cleaning & lubrication of my new rifle, (Which certainly could have contributed to the failures I experienced).

All that said, have any of you ever experienced Failure to Fire issues, (Like 3-4 out of 10 rounds) with the MagTech ammo, (Gold & White Box of 50, says CCB on the box, I believe, It claims to be & appears to be "Virgin Brass"),?? I have purchased another type of round & will try them when I get home, later this week. Just trying to see if there have been any problems with this ammo....

What is on the headstamp.

The headstamp has CBC, a 12 and a circle with a cross in it.....

There are several threads here regarding magtech 308 ammo - you may want to look a little deeper in past posts. I have haven't had any problems with it. Shoots fine - not very dirty - good brass - biggest drawback is they have raised the price on it and I can't buy it as cheap. Did you clean and grease your new rifle before using it ?

After the initial fiasco, yes....Even had a 13 year "Arizona Marksmanship Team" armorer disassemble, gage, & check the rifle for me...Still experienced the failures afterward....

Thank You!! I've already learned loads & look forward to continuing to learn from the obviously vast amount of experience available here.....In fact, if not for what I've learned already, I would have been compelled to drive to Illinois & discuss my initial experience with my Bran New Springfield M1A.....This is the most money I've ever spent on a weapon & sure did experience a catastrophic "Heartbreak when the very first trigger pull went "CLICK"...

I've run hundreds of rounds of Magtech through my M1A, it works great and is accurate enough for minute of man. The virgin brass is a plus too, especially for the price. Maybe a bad run?

Can you post pics of the primer area of these rounds?

Have you tried to re-fire the Failed round?

I don't have any with me & I'm out of town. They all had a "Slight Primer dent"

Have you tried to re-fire the Failed round?
Yes & all but 1 fired...

The lost art of research has not been missed place yet....

ElmosBoy, do a search here and I think that you question will be answered by a larger group of members here. This question has been asked several times in the last few weeks.... With plenty of info in them. Welcome on board.

Thanks for the replies. Just as a point of interest the Armorer that I took my rifle to informed me that the rounds were measuring at the very upper edge of what they should be. Is it possible that I just didn't get the chamber clean enough & these rounds weren't allowing my bolt to go into full battery???

#21 ·
That would make some sense as to not going all the way into battery an no boom.
I would say to clean the chamber feed area, and take a round, allow it to chamber and pull back to see what kind of play there is.

Juat so this doesn't linger in the "Not completed" section....Cleaned & lubed the rifle, did the tilt tests, (found "Interference" between the operating rod & the Picatanny, (Spelling??), rail mount), & less than spectacular gas piston performance, (Cleaned & corrected)....Fired 20 rounds of Federal .308 flawlessly, then fired 9 of 10 Mag-Tech, then 6 of 10 Mag-Tech, then 10 of 10 PMC.....Seems my gas piston freedom, (or lack there of), has returned, All firing was with the SAI 10-round mag that came with my rifle!! I've ordered the drills so I can quit bothering my Armorer friend before I ware out my welcome, but it certainly appears to be an ammunition issue, in my case....I'll provide additional info as I'm able.

I've never heard of any ammo that FTF 30%-40% of the time in an M14 type. When you say FTF I assume you don't mean that it fails to reload after each shot? And...that you ARE saying the hammer is dropping and the shot isn't discharging? If the later, and it's not the ammo, guess I'd start with the firing pin. Do you have a good impression on the primer from the pin?

Good luck....gremlins at it again.

Should have read through the whole thread...didn't see the previous report from you on your more recent results.

I usually stay away from foreign made stuff but there hasn't been any American made ammo around here since Christmas. I just bought a 50 rd box of magtech but it's been too cold and windy to shoot. At .83/rd it's less than most of the ammo on the net. I'll try and get out this weekend and bust a few caps, let you know what I think.

later, dozer

p.s. like my opinion is the last word on the matter

There are others that seem to have had ZERO issues with the Mag-Tech & my rifle is still ALL but new, so I wouldn't doubt that others are successful & since I have 240 rounds or so remaining, I very much wish for it to fire in mine....All info is appreciated.
