Hello and Thank You

I am new to posting and have not yet acquried my first m14, but am not unfamiliar with this forum. I have been directed here countless times while trying to find info on .308/7.62 caliber, the M1A/M14 platform, and metallurgical subjects.
I have not personally served in the military (though I suppose it's not too late) but have many friends and relatives who have and truly appreciate their service.
I was first introduced to the platform at around the age of 16 when looking at ar15s by a Vietnam vet working the gun counter at sportsman's warehouse and its been a fascination ever since. It had been a desire of mine for about a decade, but felt with the length and weight (i believe the model he showed me was an M1A loaded) it was reserved for a Semi-Auto Sniper, and I could not find a good enough excuse to add it to my collection. A few years back I found an older M1A with all surplus parts at Cabelas, I suppose the combination of less weight and me being bigger and stronger (I'm about 6'4") brought it to the top of my list.
Now I have a bear tag and a tax return so I suppose there couldn't be a better time to start.

Welcome from SE GA.

From time to time there are excellent M14/M1As for sale in the PX Classifieds here on the M14 Forum. KurtC has a beautiful M1A currently in the classifieds.

If you don't want to spend all your money at once you can do like I do and start acquiring M14 parts to your liking and pair it with a BULA, GWLA, or LRB receiver and have a professional gunsmith build it for you. It's like a giant scavenger hunt and prolongs the agony...........I mean fun!

Hello everywhere. Nice to see so many welcoming individuals at my initiation ceremony.

M14vrp: Actually I've been on the parts prowl for about 2 straight weeks now, already have have a theoretical rifle built... as in I've identified what seem to be the best deals from a number of sellers, picked a barreled action and then, um, got cold feet. Basically I cant decide if I need iron sights on a hunting rifle, or if I should get a 1-4 accupower and mount it as close as i can to the receiver. Where i hunt is heavy brush... (it would go on for another 5 paragraphs and the whole thread would probably get moved. I'm sure I'll continue in an appropriate place when i have more time)

POLACK: Beer we have a plenty, pretty sure every city around here has its own brewery(ours is Lithia). Not to mention a solid quarter of the population's closets and basements. While I prefer to drink beer (personal favorite is Spotted Cow), i actually think wine is more fun to brew, as you can make it when your already drunk with whatever is in the garden, in the tree's, or on the shelves and when its ready the flavor will always be a surprise.
