New M1A owner

Hi everyone. I am a first time M1A owner. I went to my local range and they had a pair of loaded M1A's. They were renting out one and selling the other. They convinced me to try the rental, and after hitting the 600 meter steel 7 or 8 times out of twenty, o fell in love. I bought the other rifle, and now I'm looking forward to shooting it.

I took my rifle home and disassembled it. I cleaned as much as I could will a toothbrush and gave it a light coat of clp, and it's been in my gun safe since. In cleaning it I realized one important thing: despite the Army teaching me all about everything from a M9 to a mk19, I have no idea what I'm doing.

I did some research, and I know I need to grease the weapon, but before I shoot it, I'd like to have a plan for how to take care of this rifle. Are there any good guides on how to take good care of a new rifle, from fresh out of the factory to ten years from now?

Welcome from SE GA.

Just like Wasted ammo said tonybens videos are excellent. Go to Traditional M14 section and tonybens videos are sticky threads.

Have fun and buy more ammo.

Where's your range located? I'm a member of Coastal Georgia Gun Club in Glynn County. Ours goes out to 600 yards but no rentals or sales.

Thanks from tonyben

Welcome from Florida.
I guess I'm lucky, the Army taught me about the M14, it was my Basic Training, and stateside issue rifle.
