First Post & M1A

Greetings,
Would just like to say first, thanks for all the information I have obtained and learned over the last few months in the quest of a quality M1A U.S. Rifle.

My first experience with the M14 / M1A Rifle was in the early 90's. The Department I worked with obtained two M14 Rifles from the DMRO out of Ft. Knox, KY. (1) Winchester & (2) H&R. They were sent out to be accurized and I was designated the Departments DM.

I was absolutely captivated by this weapon system from day one. Well finally I was able to obtain my very own. I am posting info provided to me by S.A.I. I have put around 40 rounds thru this rifle and just flat out in love.

I'm glad to be a new member of the forum and for all the experience and knowledge shared by it's members. Thanks again and look forward to exchanging information.

Welcome on board Trooper3448, pull up an old ammunition crate and sit awhile. This here Gun Board is a great place for information on our beloved M14 Battlerifle and military surplus ammunition for feeding her. Again welcome on board and have yourself a great weekend. Thank you for your service to Kentucky, America is better off because of you. Thanks for the pictures of your M1A, but how about the Winchester & H&R's.

Well they were both had full auto capability. Never installed the full-auto selector. Both had barrels replaced with Barnett heavy barrels w/ 1-10 twist by Gene himself. (Might I add that Gene Barnett is just one of the greatest men you could ever meet or know.) Was the sent for a trigger job and glass bedding. Started a Rifle log on each. Only ammo allowed thru these two tack drivers were LC M118 or LC M852. For me the LC M852 ammo was the more consistent. H&R had a fiberglass stock and the Winchester had a beautiful walnut stock with an oil finish. These two were both 100% number matches. My favorite was the Winchester. Gene said I was crazy and that the H&R was the better rifle??? Lol!!! They were both really great rifles and absolute tack drivers. I never took a shot over 600 yards (Tellahoma Range). Both rifles far exceeded my abilities and eyes.

Thanks,
I'm a sponge for good data on the rifle.

Welcome! It's been said basically but I was going to say your rifle looks to have some nice character to it.

Another hello from CT.

Nice rifle and interesting you have the history from SA. Did the ventilated handguard come from the SA upgrade?

Welcome from South Dakota. These rifles almost have a mystic about them that once you fire one, you can't not get your own. Will issue a warning however, they are addictive.

Thanks from Wasted ammo
