Yet another FNG from So Calif

Hey guys - just a quick note to say hello. My rifle is an old H&R M14A. I've had it for for about 15 years. Had to replace the op rod, no big deal, back then Springfield was selling parts. Looks like they don't any more. At the same time I bought a repair kit for the bolt. It included the firing pin, ejector, extractor, related springs, and a roller with its retainer. I replaced everything except the roller - couldn't figure out how to get the old one off or put the new one on, and didn't want to bugger it up. Recently I bought a pair of headspace gauges from Clymer, a go and a no go, but really don't know how to use them. I know the M14 is ok, but was concerned about a well emasculated STG58 I just built (w/o flash suppressor, with mag release cover, semi only selector, and 10 rnd mag thanks to California's silly regulations).

Welcome to the forum from NorCal. I share your pain with the stupid laws enacted in this state, however, keep up the good fight and some day we will make them better.

You will find years of collected information here and a great set of folks willing to help with just about anything related to this great rifle. Have fun.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. I was surprised to see so many members from Calif., a "blue" state predominately populated by "metro-sexuals" who tend to pee in their pants at the sight of a mere photo of a firearm.

As an old guy, I had the good fortune to live in an entirely different California. As kids, we had very realistic cap guns that actually made a noise, and they weren't colored pink or some other bizarre hue. We played games like cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians, and even a game called war. Baseball was played in the street without any cute little uniforms or interference from our parents arguing whether or not little (no talent) Jimmy should be allowed to pitch. Just a bunch of guys having fun. A rifle or three hanging in the rear window of a pickup was not that unusual. I remember one year when myself and four other guys from high school spent a week at Big Bear (a mountain resort in the San Bernardino mountains). While we were walking through the downtown area, one of the guys had a 1903 slung over his shoulder. No body even looked twice at us, and certainly we weren't taken down by any SWAT team.

Sorry about rambling on, its what old guys tend to do. In the future I'll try to stay on point.

Again,
Thanks to all

To Ret Dep 04

Congrats on your decision, wish I could. I'm still active and will likely work till I drop (or get dropped).
