| An old shooter plus a quake chaser
Hi. My name is Don and I'm from Hollister, California. I started shooting when I was 10 years old. That was many, many moons ago.
I have been hand loading for about 40 years, but have never loaded for a gas operated rifle. Most of my loading has been for 22/250, 7mm mag, 30/06, 280, 45ACP, 45 Colt, 38/357, 9mm and 380acp.
My press is the Dillon Progressive, the dies are RCBS, Redding and Hornady. I have a Dillon electronic scale, a Lee case trimmer and a big orange case cleaner.
Have to disagree with the comment about progressive presses not being accurate powder chargers. When you can put 10 rounds into a target at a 100 yards off bench and cover them with a dime, and or take out ground squirrels out to 500 yards or so, that is when the wind is in your favor the press must be doing something right. I can do this with my 22/250 which is the Remington 700 with a bull barrel and a Choat stock.
My bullet preference are Hornady, powders are Hodgdon and or Accurate, primers are CCI.
When I was in the Air Force I shot on the 1000 yard team using a M1 Garand. Had lots of fun.
When I'm not shooting I'm out walking the various faults and doing research on earthquakes. I got started doing that in 1963 when I was living in Japan. I lived there for about 10 years. I learned from a Japanese friend of mine they thought there was going to be a large quake in the Niigata area. Of all the days I picked to go to Niigata was day the M7.5 quake struck. I had just got off the train and was walking across the street when I heard this rumbling sound. I thought every truck on the street was coming at me. The next thing I knew was the ground was just about jerked out from under me. That was when I decided to sit down in the street and ride it out. That was it. I was going to learn all I could about earthquakes and what causes them. Still learning. Take Care...Don
