| Hello from Canton Mi
Nice to find this place. I have been in search of real info on the M1 and M14.
What brings me here is a quest. I am going to make a display of the regualr soldiers rifles of WWII. This is my last stop. The last gun I need. I have England's enfield, Japan's Type-99, Germany's Mauser and now. I am really looking for a M1.
The plan, I will make a shelved rifle case. Each shelve devoted to the country. Pictures, patches and any little odd and end I can locate.
Well, in my search. Having had a Polytech M14 about 20 years ago. I go tthe bug again to get another. Problem is. I will only have enough for one. I have this idea of getting the M14 and mocking it up to look like a M1.
I have yet to really figure that one out. So, now I start my hunt. I want to deal locally.
Personally, I'm a Air Force guy. Got out in 92. Two divorces and two sons. Currently have a girl. I work on cars and have a 06 Impala SS. I am turning my attention back to my guns. Otherwise I am gonna do something stupid with the car.
So, before I buy. I want to learn what I can so I make the right choice. I hang out alot at Michigan gun owners and Glocktalk.

Welcome aboard the M14 forum.
I been thinking about this thread and I honestly don't know how you'd camouflage an M14 well enough to make it look like a genuine M-1 Garand.
Your best bet is to purchase you a real M-1 from the CMP and enjoy yourself with what General Paton called "the finest battle implement to come out of WW2."
By the way it's a crying shame that you sold your Polytech M-14. Because they are an outstanding example of a semi automatic M14, with a tremendous potential for building an excellent battle rifle.

As I said. That was many years ago. Didn't realize what I had.
Well, now I am trying to figure out how I can get both the M1 and M14. I already have about 2k in 308 ammo.
Yea, I know. But it is my twisted logic.
Yep, on the how do you mock up a M14. If you only look at the back half and squint.

Welcome to the forum from NorCal. You could do what so many of us have done. Go for the Garand now to complete the display and them start collecting parts working toward an M1A/M14 build. You can take it as fast as cash allows and each piece brings you closer to having both great rifles. Please keep us posted on how the decision works out.

Bought a M1A Springfield
Rifle has bedded walnut stock, hra op rod, trw bolt, sa trigger group. Gun came with leather sling and Brookfield precision tool mount. Bayonet lug and 2 USGI mags. Rifle serial #92xx excellent condition
She is beautiful.
If I can't locate a Garand. I will make the display and get a small flag across the front of the rifle. lol. Basically just have the receiver showing. At least till I get what I need in there. But, I am so happy.
I want to find a vintage scope to mount on it. But, one that works well.
Where is info on the older scopes that had been used on these. Not finding what I want to see.
Or just say to hell with it and just get a good scope.

Congratulations, you bought yourself a fine rifle. You need to think about an M-1 Garand from the CMP. They have prices designed for about any budget.

Plus a got a lead on a crate of 30/06/M2 lot LC42190 ball ammo

Welcome to the forum neighbor. Sounds like you scored a nice M1A, but we need to see some pics!
The CMP is the way to go on a Garand. It's the best deal around.

OK, as you can see the Garand is in a little bit of ruff shape in my eyes. A prior owner polished the tube. For what reason. I'm not sure. The barrel is a replacement and blued.
But, It still seems like a solid gun. I tell you what. Checking it out. I did what I should not have done. Put my thumb in and push the spring down. I now have a blood blister on my thumb at the nail.
Guess it slipped my mind about that. Won't happen again.
I'm gonna post in the Garand section and see what I need to do from here.
The M1A is a fine example of a Man's Rifle. I will post about it in the right forum when I get ready to do something with it.
