| Favorite Navy “Flick”???..
Hey, this is a takeoff of a thread over on the ARMY side of the house, so tell me Shipmates, what is your favorite Navy “Flick”???..
I have mine, (many) but what is yours.??? .
Just FYI, I currently have “Run Silent, Run Deep”(1958) running in the back ground… My Favorite line by Clark Cable/CDR “Rich” Richardson, Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. NERKA (SS-380),
“A Fleetboat of the Navy, a Submarine with her fighting powers still intact, and you’d, take her back to Pearl??, I don’t believe it,!!!”
And please elaborate Shipmates as to why you like your choice…..
BTW, MM/1c Jake Holman U.S.S. SAN PABLO, now there is a Snipe that can “pull down” with a BAR when the time requires it….

I was never in the Navy, but my favorite flick about the US Navy has more to do with aviation, as that's my background. "Top Gun" rates amongst the greatest movies of all time; '86 was a good year...

Mine would have to be Midway or Top Gun. I'm a big NAVAIR fan also. I would say Peal Harbor but it gets cheesy at times. Yes, I know that not consistent but I guess the action in Top Gun make up for it. |

I wasn't even born when this movie came out but my father and I have always been a fan of "The Last Detail".

Not a Navy guy either but I've always loved "They Were Expendable".

Army guy here but my favorite Navy Movie, hands down, is "In Harm's Way". It's one of my favorite "War" movies too. |

"Down Periscope"
Why? because that's how submariners are for the most part |

My favorite is Mister Roberts. When he finally gets fed up with the captain and throws the palm tree over the side and receives the "Order of the Palm" is one of the best scenes.
For a comedy, I like Down Periscope and how the laundry department kept shrinking Lauren Holly's uniforms.
For a family movie, I really liked The Incredible Mr. Limpet with Don Knotts. I loved it as a kid and still do.
Others that are highly ranked navy movies for me are:
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
The Hunt for Red October
Tora! Tora! Tora!
PT109
Navy Seals
The Final Countdown
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Men of Honor
Apocalypse Now
McHale's Navy (tv show)

Since no one mentioned it , Crimson Tide was pretty good. Gene Hackman was excellent!

If I was stuck on a desert island with only one movie, it would be 'In Harms Way'. (I would also be fortunate if they had a TV with a CD drive on that island), and maybe some beer.

If its not limited to the U.S. Navy, then I say "Mutiny on the Bounty". The 80's version with Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins.
