But can they SHOOT?

Might as well be baton-twirlling majorettes.

srsheffield that was really good. How long did it take you to learn that and how mean times did you hit your self or though your rifle. while perfecting it.

this is sort of like me learning bicycle or motorcycle stunts. How many times would I drop/break my rifle before learning these skills?

They may or may not be able to shoot, but I ain't never seen a majorette with a bayonet on the end of her baton!

I don't know what drill team that was but I was a member of the "Flying Rifles Precsion Drill Team" out of NATTC Memphis in 1980. We did the same drills as shown in the video. Our weapons were M1 Garands with bayonets like in the video. I only dropped my weapon from a catch a couple of times. We performed in parades and events like the Cotton Carnival in Memphis. It was fun and I had a blast.

They do pretty much...

...the same type of drill that our drill team did.

I was on the COMCBLANT Drill Team 1969-1970.

We toured all over the east coast, traveling with the Blue Angels in the summer 1970.

We used 03-A3 Springfields with bayonets fixed. In fact, we taped the butt of the bayonet to the barrel to insure it didn't accidently break from the stud. Each member custom-finished his own stock. We also got some a carpenter to cut down a couple of broken stocks and create bayonet grips which we finished to match the stock.

Once you learn how to handle the balance of a fixed bayonet, it's really odd to try the same spins, etc., without it.

And now for something really impressive!

I'd be more impressed if the Navy Dept. would just pay my son his Marine scholarship stipend on time. Two months overdue and counting.
