| New Navy uniforms
Have you seen the new Navy uniforms?
The E1-E6 service uniform is a short-sleeve khaki shirt with black pants & garison cap. Optionally, a black Ike jacket or v-neck wooly-pully sweater. Doesn't look remotely naval to me.
Then there is the new working uniform, which is basically BDU's in a digital camo pattern made of various shades of black & grey. Pretty silly concept - camo on a ship... the better to hide from your LPO while napping during field day?
On the positive side, they're testing bringing back dress khaki for officers & Chiefs. Even though I'm retired, I may get a set if they come in something besides 100% polyester (the Navy's been hung up on this polyester thing since I was a nub).

Did not want it then, don't want it now. I do like the E1-E6 jumper whites with the black piping.

They specced the camo to hide stains from the work environment (or so the press release said).
I'm sure it won't hurt when hiding from the brass, though.

white's(working, or dress) were always a joke. some sick twisted idividual came up with wearing white as a uniform. i never minded when i was in engineering, because engineers only wear them for inspection. when i ended up in combat sytems, i learned to despise white's.

BDU's look OK for small boat work, etc. The service uniform looks awful. They should stick with the cracker jack uniform.

BDUs are increasingly necessary as the Navy sticks it's personnel into areas previously the realm of the Marines and Army. Do you really want the local terrorists to be able to discern whose Branch is in front of them? Think about it. A properly placed IED, or two, could render a smaller vessel unable to enter combat effectively until replacements arrive. Infantry is a dime a dozen, while Combat Systems personnel, on the other hand, are a bit harder to grow, and integrate.
The old jeans and t-shirt work uniform showed dirt and staining from day one.
Dress uniforms come and go. I will agree that the undress, and dress, whites were the biggest PIA I've ever suffered while on liberty in some tropical paradise, like Bangkok, or Saigon. |

The khaki shirt with green trousers service uniform looks very similar to a Marine uniform.

Those will really stick out if you were to fall overboard.

However, I have my doubts that they'll let you keep wearing your paint-stained uniforms just because the camo pattern makes it less obvious at a distance.

With this, the Squids will be the ones who look like they were filmed in B&W while the other services are in color...
