Richard Boutwell
Great Lakes ( might as well been the North Pole)
Company 8 1962
Aviation Electronics (ATN)
First duty station
NAS Patuxent River Md ( Worked at base hospital)
Transfered to NATC Patuxent River WST ( Weapons Systems Test)
Spent last time after being extended 6 months at Webster Field MD.
Most boring place. 12 sailors and 70 civilians. Our CO was a LT (mustang)
Never enough work for everyone so spent a lot of time fishing and hunting. I don't know why they kept me in additional time

Mama Mama Can't you see......

......what the Navy's done to me....

RTC Great Lakes Company 320 OCT84-DEC84

Then off to NTC Millington, TN for Enlisted Aviation Theory and Ordnance "A" School.....

Do the Ordies still play "Rodeo" with the Millington girlies?....

NTC San Diego, fall 1974. Caught Hep-A so add 6 weeks at Balboa NRMC.
MM-A School Great Lakes, Dec. 1974
USS St. Louis LKA-114, San Diego waiting seat at Nuke School
Nuclear Power School, Vallejo CA second half 1975
Prototype S1W (Nautilus rx), Idaho Falls ID Feb-August 1976
Submarine NR1 shoreside support "baby nuke" Sept '76 to June '77
USS HL Stimson SSBN-655 Gold Crew, home port Charleston SC, Op from Rota, Spain
S5G prototype (Narwhal rx) 1979-1983 sea returnee staff. MM1(SS)

Honored to have stood in the engineroom of USS Nautilus when there was fuel in the pot and steam in the pipes. NR1 is welded to a barge, sitting in Bremerton waiting the chop. Stimson chopped before 2000, rx compartment sealed and in burial pit at Hanford along with most of the rest of decom subs from that era.

RTC Great Lakes summer of 1975. It was so hot the day of graduation that the polish melted off of our shoes. Remember how many coats of polish went on your dress shoes over 9 weeks of boot?

Then onto EW school at Corry Station in P'cola. They did away with EW a few years back and turned the duties over to CTTs.
