What decorations do you have

how many navy officers on here and how many broonze, silver stars and navy cross's. It seemed like the officers got all the medals and us grunts didn't get many.

Enlisted Dolphins, Deterrent Patrol pin, Viet Nam Era ribbon. You don't get many awards for skulking around the sewers of the world. Dolphins I wear with pride: damned few have the kind of crazy you need to earn those.

Then again, a buddy of mine was on the Parche and has a chestload of ribbons, but he can't tell you about any of them. "He'd have to kill yah."

You aren't going to get a Purple Heart on a sub, unless you are a SEAL assigned aboard, and then, again, you won't be able to tell anyone how you got it, just show them the scars.

You aren't going to get any higher awards, either, since subs usually go down with All Hands. Nature of the Beast.

I got the usual stuff for 3 tours to RVN in the 60's, . . . but the one medal that means the most to me...........

It wasn't a medal, . . . but rather a "metal", . . . metal sound of the gang plank landing on pier 6 at San Diego, in late April of 1968, . . . 4 days later I was no longer USN, . . . I was USNR.

Medals are fine, . . . not disparaging those who earned them, . . . God bless em all, . . . getting home, . . . honorably, . . . in one piece was my "medal".

May God bless,
Dwight

Nothing changes BUDS13. Roman Centurions probably complained about their generals.

Rifle with "E" (Ribbon/Medal), Pistol with "E" (Ribbon/Medal), Sea Service with cluster (Ribbon), Military Expeditionary (Medal), National Defense (Ribbon/Medal), Navy Expeditionary (Ribbon/Medal), Good Conduct with cluster (Ribbon/Medal), Meritorious Unit Citation (Ribbon).

A couple of my buds from a former command told me we also were awarded the Presidential Unit Citation (Ribbon) and the Joint Services (??? Medal???). Not sure how I would confirm, or even have added to my record/DD214?

Navy Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Ribbon, Expert Rifle, and Expert Pistol.

If you were awarded a medal and never received it, go to NPC website here.
