More Deck Guns

A couple months ago I posted a picture from my nephew, skipper of the USS Truxtun. Here's a couple more he just emailed from the ship.

It took a shutter speed of 1/3200 sec., but he caught the projectile just after leaving the tube of the 5" gun.


And here's the Mark 38 25mm remote-controlled machine gun. I know nothing about it, but that's more than twice as big as a .50 cal bullet. That's got to be one bad-ass machine gun.

I spent most of my career working on the 5" guns, to include the MK 42 system and the MK 45 system.

Here is a pic of the last gun I worked on, the 76mm.

The 25mm Chain Gun....

Hey Thanks Big Sarge for bringing this thread/posting back to the Forefront..

In TexIndian's picture of the Mark 38 25mm gun firing...well look closely... above the 25mm's barrel you will see the spent steel casing being ejected….. And directly below the black 25mm barrel with the gray back ground of the 25mm's supporting super structure you will see the link dropping over the side...
