I have a handle on a SAI from 90, 91 or so. NIB, but the seller says it won't fit in his SAGE stock. Now, thats an issue for me, since I want it as a potential backup for my SAGE. He said that the receiver fits, but the trigger group won't fit in once the rifle is in the stock. Any idea if there is something abnormal about early M1A's, and if the SAI warrenty follows the gun, not the owner (in case its a defect)? He says the trigger group is stamped SA.
It sounds like it's more issue with the sellers SAGE stock than the TG. Trigger groups AFAIK, are pretty much dimensionally similar. Are you buying this rifle w/orig stock, or is the rifle coming w/the Sage stock? It sounds like you might inherit the "fit up" problems! SAI does warranty to second hand buyers but, if the TG is in spec to fit up to a USGI stock as produced by SAI; I don't think there is much they can/will do for you. Maybe others can chime in. dozier
check with the seller about the fit up problem (what is actually happening with fit) i would bet it is the trigger guard lock up pressure that he is talking about "afraid it will brake to apply any more pressure"
you might get a deal on it if that is the case
I am not buying it, since I am going to go with another forum members more expensive but national match setup. Its early 90s so I expect it has a lot of USGI parts, he doesn't know since he isn't sure about the abbreviations (his words), at $1250 in unfired NIB condition, I think its a good deal, I just can't afford 2 extras right now...

Looked at the pics of the rifle in the link. One discrepancy I noted was the Flash Hider had the Bayonet Lug milled off. This was not done till around 1996 when the Ban was put in effect. Rifle could have been made anytime after that date. Serial Number would help in determining the birth day of this rifle. dozier
Before you jump to any harsh decision let me point out something that I had to deal with when I ordered a JAE stock for my old 1980 vintage rifle. The older receivers have a small step on the right side that the newer receivers don't have.
JAE asks up front if your receiver is the older style because they mill their stock to compensate for this step. If the stock has not been relieved for this step then the trigger group will not lock up since the receiver sits too high in the stock.
Take a look at the receiver and if it has this step then I would contact the Sage people and see if they can do something to compensate for the step.
good catch on the step RAMMAC i didn't think of that
