Last week I scheduled my 2 girls a trip to the range, my GirlFriend and my SOCOM 16. My buddy was running an NRA Basic Safety course which I figured the GF should go to, since shes never been to one and its always hard to teach the one you have emotional ties with. His class went very well, there were a few other students in the class, 4 or 5, and I just sat there dream M14 Dreams until it was early afternoon and RANGE TIME!!! FRG1
Range temps were around 71, clear blue skies, light wind coming from left to right over the range, enough to keep the rounds on paper and keep us from overheating. Ammo used was POF Linked, (http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/308-146-gr-full-metal-jacket-ammunition-250-rds.aspx?a=545035)
Not bad ammo, I only had 2 problems, 1 FTE and 1 where the round fed, pulled the trigger, no bang-just click, cycled the action, out came the casing, but bullet fell out as did some of the powder GI8.
I fired about 150 rounds, slow fire and rapid fire. I wasnt going for accuracy, I wanted to push the rifle a little bit, being new to me I wanted to see if it would run. She ran BEAUTIFULLY. She looked kinda mean when I heated her up pretty good with a little smoke comin' off her GI6. I shot mainly from prone unsupported and sitting/kneeling. I couldnt find my sling last minute, which irked me pretty good, but I was still excited to take her shooting. I dont know about you guys with wood stocks, but after a while, about 120 rounds rapid fire, my shoulder started to hurt! I used all brand new CMI Mags, 7 - 20 rounders, 1 - 10 rounder, and 2 - 5 rounders, just to function test my mags and my rifle. I even let my GF try out the rifle, she only shot 3-4 rounds, she has eye domincy issues, so my 1911 works out better for her. Ill try and post pictures a little later, just have to see how they came out, haven't looked at them just yet. Now I just need the funds to build a full sized Scoped M1A and the M14E2 tribute rifle I have been drooling and dreaming about!
