So, my 'smith emailed wednesday that he found me a socom 16. said it would be here friday or monday...whoo Hooooo!!!

well, it didnt show up friday. I went to Omaha, NE to visit the folks and stopped at cabelas in La Vista. They had one on the shelf just sitting there. Now granted, it was $250 more than what I was paying my 'smith, but i can't believe that I have been waiting for what seems like a lifetime, and one is just sitting there.

Now, for more frustration...I have not heard from my gunsmith since friday. Can't reach him by email or phone. Hope all is well with him.

Confirmed

Well, I got a response from my smith. Seems that there was a mix-up at his distributor but they still had his name on the SOCOM...just not shipped. He said it should be here Friday. I will keep my fingers crossed.

I am also picking up a used Springfield Stainless Loaded 1911. Hopefully that shows up on Friday to him also since he is about an hour away...don't want to make 2 trips.

Waiting seems to be the norm for the M14 platform. I waited 8 months for two M25 receivers 6 months for Krieger barrels 4-6 months for ammo from Black Hills 5 months for a Les Tam sling 6 months for McMillan stocks. I sent them to the smith and I have to wait agian. I am not complaining by any means. When I am at the range with them I will have a huge smile on my face. Looks like it will be about two and a half years from the time I bought the first parts to the finished product. Guess what? I started all over again. I am on a 8 month wait list for an M25 receiver again. I am a gluten for punishment. I also called Knights armorment today to see if I could buy a receiver and they are not going to be in production again until the first of the year because all there resources are tied up with the new M110. In the end it will be all good!

Whendealing with the M1A/M14 system it always seems like you are waiting for something. It may be because of the times but I dint think so. Any way it usually is worth it in the long run. Hang in there.

Annoying website design

I just looked at that Knights Armament website...dance2

Most annoying thing I have ever seen. No prices on weapons? HA HA, Good luck getting my business!

Looks like you have to register to look further. I do not get it.

Now the fun begins. One question though, should it have come with a tool or something for disassembly or do I need to find one. There is nothing in the buttstock.

There are several you will need eventually in order to propperly maintain the rifle. A gas cylinder wrench piston cleaning tools gas cylinder cleaning tools maybe a multi tool that was origionally issued with the M14. If you look at the Sadlak website and look up the tools you will get a good idea what you are looking at. Right now I would get a dewey rod and some patches. Get to the reange and dirty it up a bit. The gas system does not have to be cleaned that often. I hear 500 rounds id a good rule of thumb but then again everyone is different. If the piston stops sliding back and forth with the op rod to the rear you know its time to get in the gas system and get to cleaning.

Glad to hear you got your SOCOM. You are going to love it. I live in Papillion and hit the Cabelas all the time (only 4 miles from me!). Guns Unlimited has a couple M1As once in awhile. I got mine at one of the local pawn shops. Shoots like a dream. I did not get a cleaning kit with mine either. I see them in the classifieds or ebay, gunbroker, etc. Good luck! Tony
