Scope Mounting Rail

On an M1A1 is there a full length rail available that will extend from the forearm of the rifle to the receiver or back of the receiver and still allow for iron sights and a scope? Something similar to the Ultimak Forward Optic mount but with a further rail extension to the receiver.

The reason for this is I would prefer to use a standard eye relief scope and not a scout scope. And I'm not impressed with the Sadlak type mounts and their variants.

It looks like the Socom 16 II may have the type of rail that I'm referring to, but I'm not sure that you can use iron sights and a scope concurrently with it.

The only other option I see is to get a whole new chassis, something like the Troy MCR.

Extended Forward Rail

Vltor makes the type of rail that I think your describing. The only problem with it is that you have to send it to Springfield to have them install it. Thats the only was you can get one unless you find one on Ebay. I had one put on my scout and I love it. You can still use your open sights as well as a scout style optic or normal scope over the action. You can check them out on Vltor's web sight or on a Socom 2.

Scrav's setup. (I just like the picture).

Vltor website pic. I know it's not the same rail, but it is about the same height. Looks like.. anyway

I don't see how you can see the irons through it though. Unless you have rings with holes in them?

I don't know if you are referring to only Sadlak's mounts or any receiver mounted scope mount, but they were and are good enough for the US military (M21's have scopes on receiver mounts)....
Personally I like a TROY chassis for scope mounting. I think the cheek weld is better with the TROY setup. But I'm going to try a more traditional approach on my next build. We'll see!

The Aimpoint is mounted with a ARMS quick throw lever mount that comes off in about 3 seconds and with the scope and green rail covers taken off you can use the open sights. The Troy industries stock is one of the best looking setups I've ever seen and would be a great choice as well. I have since put on a adj. cheek piece from fulton arm. and I get a good cheek weld now. If your in a state that allows the Troy stock go for it, that thing is bad ass.
