Getting a grip on an XM21 CBR...

YeeHaw! Got my XM21 bundle over the weekend.
The receiver is awesome... Thanks Jeff!

The carbon fiber stock is WAY light and stiff. Better than my expectations.
Not knowing the weight, it does feel lighter than the AG Composite my daughter's rifle is wearing.
VERY stiff... put the gorilla white knuckle twist on it and i couldn't feel any jello warp.
Will have to gauge it once the rifle is set in it. The receiver gonna be a really tight fit.
Already tried to set it in and it's gonna be a hearty clamp fit which i like.

Today's thread is about the generic cheapo AR grip the CBR comes with.
It was said upfront that's what they all come with because everbody likes something diffrent.
I have grown to like the MagPul K2 pistol angle and feel.
Looking at what i need to make it work...

Generic AR grip...

Compared to the K2...

How much of the hump that's gotta go...

Not sure how i'm gonna cut the hump off yet but once i get it figured out, i'll update.

Ya'll shoot straight!!
Smoky

Looks like you are going to have to cut it off square with the top of the grip. In other words the whole hump. Those grips feel much better cut it and try it out.

I wouldn't just cut it off straight. I think you'd end up with a gap at the rear. I'd try to scribe it to the stock and take your time trimming it in.

Not sure about the gap if it's set back far enough that your stock starts to angle up but isn't the K grip the same as the MOE but without the part you plan to cut off? Thats the AG CBR stock correct?

Sure looks like the same pistol grip angle.
Glad i didn't cut my K2 yet. That K grip might be perfect. will research... Thanks!

This stock is the new CBR stock from BULA Defense for their XM21 line.
It's carbon fiber but a little diffrent than the AG offering.
Still has the AR grip block and screw on the bottom.

I have looked at those folding adapters once before and i don't think they'll fit just right on the rear of this stock. The buffer tube sits lower and doesn't have a rotate stop indention for the hinge to lock into. Please excuse my lack of proper terminolgy.

For the buttstock, i just ordered another BattleLink Minimalist. I've gotten to like those little things. Very robust.

the adapters screw into the existing threads that the tube threads into the stock tube then screws into the other end of the adapter, and locks using the locking ring that you normally lock it down with. makes a smaller package to store, hide and backpack for hunting.

Heard DAT!! meee too... only needs time and money.
Ordered one of J.Wolfe's NM tuned BULA trigger paks yesterday because of the great feedback they are receiving.
Other than that, i'm thinkin most of my build parts are floating around the shop somewhere.
Need the little things like the spring guide lock, bolt stop and all the pins.
I thinking the major stuff is covered except my barrel. Not made up my mind yet.

Back on the grip....
Researched the K versus the K2 and found mine is the K2+.
The K is much slimmer at the top so that's not good for my hams.
The K2+ has the rubber overmolding that's had me wondering how i was gonna make it do right.
Seen the full size K2 is reinforced polymer and shapeable... ordered that just a bit ago.
Not long now and will have it together with the MFT buttstock that's coming soon.

More to come!!
Smoky

Thanks from delong31

interesting stock. I see that they're not offering them separately at this time. I wonder what the price point will be when they do? (thanks for the links). Please share your experience with it once you've tested it out. Best of luck with it.

If the stock were offered separate from the rifle we could buy it behind enemy lines.
