Bassett Mount Color

I picked up a Bassett Low from the PX and, while it's brand new, the coloring is off. It's not black... more of a purple shade. I emailed Bassett and they said they had a run of these that were off-color and ended up changing manufacturers.

It is $25 to exchange it for a correct one so I am wondering if anyone has painted theirs and what works best? Rustoleum in a rattle can or something along those lines?

If it was mine a would do just what you said if you don't like it get some paint thinner and wipe it off. I wouldn't paint the inside of it, like where it meets the receiver.

I would just paint it also if it bothers you.

Pretty sure that it is anodized aluminum and you are not going to just wipe off that with paint thinner.

It has a good base for paint though, unless it was nickel sealed then the paint will have a hard time sticking to it.

I was saying if he spray painted it and didn't like that he could wipe off the rattle can paint.

Thanks all. I will take a shot at just painting it and see how that goes. I'll make sure to cover up the rails that align it and only paint the outside. The mount is well built and so very easy to install. Eager to see how it holds zero after removal.

I have one just like it and it has served me well. Not the strongest mount made but no question the simplest.

Actually, it does not look bad, different yes but kind of old school cool. You might want to put it up on the PX and see what happens. You could then have some funds for a new one in the color you want.

It might look better in my wood furniture than the Kryptek camo. Matte black rustoleum will probably be the best option if all I want is the color changed. Either way, it's just an aesthetic thing. They're such beautiful rifles I get a bit OCD with how it looks!

Nothing wrong with being a little obsessive. I would buy a few different brands of paint, you can always use spray paint for something and it's cheap. Test them on something else metal and see which ones dries to your liking.

Continue the camo scheme that the rifle has. Then do the scope.

If it was an old Ideal reloading tool, the color would be called "plum".

If you commit to the rattle can just rough it up a bit with sandpaper and go to town. Clean it, scuff it and clean again. Then paint. I like it when people personalize things.
