Scout Squad Optics
After years of wanting one, I got my first M1a on Sunday, a Springfield Scout Squad with the factory wood stock. I really like the rifle in its stock form, but I want to put an Aimpoint CompM3 on it. The purpose of this rifle will be for a camp protection rifle when camping/hunting, use around my family's property and friends farms, and just a fun one to shoot. I know I could just use a low 30mm ring and put it on the factory Scout rail, but I want to look at other options. Normally I like my red dots and low powered optics farther forward. After talking to SEI, they suggested I use one of their scope mounts and throw the Aimpoint on there, but from he pictures I've seen, that would put it pretty far back, and high.
Is there a mount that would put it just in front of the action?
What do you recommend?
Is the factory rail solid?
I'm planning on doing an SEI gas system, Navy brake, Tritium front sight, and trigger in order to make this rifle rugged and reliable, I don't want my optics mount and set up to be a weak point!
