HELP optics opinions and knowledge requested

Ok, I'm sure this has been beaten into the ground, and I'm going to resurrect it, with a twist. I know I don't want a red dot or EOTech, I do want a 1-4 / 1-6 scope, preferably illuminated. The problem : eye relief.. anybody using the vortex / primary arms.... Any of those on a Socom? Maybe with a cantilever mount ? Pictures? Experiences?

What do you want it do? That's the question.

Have the ability to use 1x but turn up the magnification if need for out to 300. Eye sight sucks. We don't have much more open room than 300 in the sticks. A little precision a little cqb....

Take a look at the new Vortex 1-6x24 VIPER PST GEN II. Just got a few of the other PST GEN IIs and I'm very impressed!

Have to agree with posters above. The Leupold VX-R Patrol in 1.25 - 4 is pretty hard to beat. The lower 4 in this photo are wearing them. Great scope for the M-14 and lighted too. They also have a motion sensor that turns the light off if you forget and saves batteries.

I just got the new Primary Arms 1-6x GenIII. I currently have my Socom set up with a scout configuration but have a Bassett Low on the way. I'm going to hook up the 1-6x on Warne low rings and see how it works. Playing with the scope yesterday the glass is clear and I love the reticle (this is my 2nd ACSS scope). Highly recommended for $290 shipped on Amazon Prime with lifetime warranty from PA

You mentioned eye relief... I think you would be impressed with the eye relief of the above scope. Very bright and clear. Target acquisition is also fast. The best street price with shipping I was quoted was about 15% off the best retail price I could find BTW.

Are you trying to set your rifle up in a scout config, with the rear of the optic forward of the receiver, or are you just looking for a 1-6 to mount over the receiver, way different eye relief needed depending on your planned mounting location.

Insert biased opinion here => I have a vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x for sale that's brand new. Has red illumination and does BDC for .308 and .223. Vortex have a no questions asked life time warranty.

;)

Thanks guys. I'm wanting to mount the scope over the receiver to the rear since using a traditional mount is not possible with the Vltor rail system. My biggest concern was mounting a 1-6 forward of the receiver and not having enough eye relief. So basically the biggest question is can you use the vortex or the pa scopes forward of the receiver? Any pics of this configuration?

I think you'd need an IER or LER sight or a red dot to mount forward of receiver. I know the PA one won't be enough eye relief, nor will Vortex. I have a Leupold VX-II 1.5-4x on my factory socom scout rail which is variable and has enough relief to mount forward but it's a bit different than the 1-6s discussed here.
