Scope recommendations. Leopold.

I've used several scope brands over the years and am fond of leopold. Looking to scope a scout with a receiver (not sure which mount yet either, ha) mount and optic. Most of my shooting and hunting under 300 yards. Except there may be the occational coyote out to 600 yards. While looking at leopold optics there are many reticle options. I do like my friends illuminated dot reticles. Any suggestions for a reticle that is 762x51 friendly?

Take a look at their VX-R Patrol 1.25 - 4. Great scope for the capabilities of the M-14 without over doing it.

Any luepold that is CDS compatible they give you a coupon for one turret. Nikon, night force, Burris, vortex I could go on and on. How much do you want to spend? If you get a leupold get a real one made in America not one of the cheap ones made in China. I got a Chinese one on a trade and it sucks! It's a rifleman series glass is decent but adjustments feel like plastic gears and it doesn't hold a zero with regular hunting use.

Good info. I have a circa 2001 leupold rifleman equivalent 3x9 40mm that has been rock solid since I sighted in 16 years ago. Many times been bumped hard in the deer blind and while walking. Not sure if its made in US back then. Do you know which line of Leopolds are made in china these days? I was not aware they had a Chinese line. Been a long time since scope shopping. The CDS turret sounds good. When they send you a CDS, is it elevation only?

Yes CDS is elevation only, basically you want a vx-what ever or a mark series. Maybe the rifleman scope I have is just a pos but I have 2 other leupolds that are rock solid. I have a vx3 from the early nineties that stayed zeroed on a 270 for 23 years until I took it off. The CDS is nice you give them your info such as barrel length twist rate FPS and bullet weight ETC. And they make a turret for your rifle and your load. There is a company I think it's called Kenton industries that make turrets for other brand scopes, I could be off with that name. Opticsplantet will bargain with you if you can get the right person on the line.

Jim, nikon also make a scope with a 308 reticle in it. There was one for sale in the PX for a good price new in box. Nikon makes a good scope.

Get a 1-4 VX-II with a duplex. Zero at 200 yards. That is 2 inches high at 100. Aim dead on out to 250 or so. Learn hold overs for out to 600. You can use the duplex as a range finder.

All the fancy reticls will not make make you a better shooter. I personally like a simple duplex or for quick shooting a post reticle also known as a German #1 for general hunting use.

I'm using the same scope that Art mentioned. I really like it.

If you have the money, Nightforce makes a solid scope. running the nxs compact.
