Wanting to buy a scope mount

Hey everyone,
I have a SAI scout squad. I just got a vortex viper pst with an American Defence recon mount. I am looking at the ARMS #18 mount because I like the low profile of the mount. Can anyone tell me pros and cons of this mount as well as any other low profile mounts that are avaliable?

Thanks

Have you tried the search feature on the upper right of the page? There must be over a hundred threads asking the same questions

Do you want to leave it on the rifle all the time, or are you going to switch from optics to irons?

I would like to leave it on the whole time. And if I remeber I think you can use irons while this mount is attached.

That is a very good mount if you are going to leave it on the rifle. There are videos and older threads that discuss in extreme detail how to properly mount this to your rifle. Follow these and you will be in good shape.

Okay, I found a good deal on one and will be getting it this weekend. Just hear some people say that there is a chance it will not fit my rifle.

There is always a small possibility something will be out of spec. Chances are it is user error while installing these mounts that cause the doubt. I don't own one but have read several threads on this.

When we join this forum we all ask the same thing, what mount what ammo etc. Once you get it if you have any problems post a picture and someone will be more than happy to help you.

I got you thanks for the help. I will have it all mounted and set up come saturday. Then I will upload some pics.
No I am keeping it on because I will more than likely be using this rifle for both hunting deer etc and hogs. So I will want something more close range and like the look of the red dot on the scout mount.
My AD mount is quick release FYI

Interesting set-up. I wonder if you will be able to co-witness. Let us know.

ARMS 18
CASM
MA4GENAM
PROMAG
SADLAK
BASSETT
FULTON ARMORY

Start doing some research and googling for reviews. Everyone has good/bad stories about each one of them

Edit: Since you still have the scout mount, have you looked at Vortex's Scout scopes? e.g. http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/...32-scout-scope

ARMS have a great reputation and I have used their customer service for replacement bushings and they are very easy to work with.

I tried the Arms on my Socom 16 but the receiver was too out of spec and I couldn't get it to go on straight. Ended up doing the custom fit that Sadlak offers on a titanium mount. Of course it fits like a glove after they work their magic.

Out of the 7 ARMs18 i've installed over the years, only one really stood out as not fitting an out of spec receiver. The dovetail was cast too far forward on the Springfield receiver and would not allow the mount to settle into the grooves. Easy fix... filed a little at a time off the mount until it smacked on solid. Dab of blue loctite on all touch point and threads then torque. Rock solid !! Cant go wrong. Looks like it was made as part of the receiver.

Thanks from M14wannabe
