Keyholing while suppressed

My frustration trying to suppress an M1A continues...

The rifle is an LRB with a heavy Krieger barrel and the suppressor is a Specwar 762.

Today I shot some cheap 145 grn M80 PPU and discovered that the rifle was keyholing at 100 yards. I then tried some 168 grn Hornady and had the same issue.

I then removed the suppressor and the rifle began to group like normal.

Any suggestions?

Guys will be along soon to really help you but it sure sounds like the Bullets are hitting the Suppressor.

Thanks from tonyben, nf1e and angelonm

You might check using an alignment tool like this:

Always contact the suppressor manufacturer, they may have already encountered the problem and know the solution.

That being said, it is usually an alignment issue. One or all of the baffles has uneven gas pressure around it. Worse case is that the bullet is contacting a baffle.

Even though there is no contact, any irregularities or misalignment would cause variable gas pressure on the bullet once out the barrel. My rookie guess. Now I'll wait for the experts to find out how wrong I am!

It's probably a slight alignment issues that causing the bullet to leave a bit off, but without damaging the can.

Then the mount may not be mating perfectly with the barrel.

Thanks for that link. I'm ordering one too. Not every baffle strike is detrimental to the suppressor. I bet it's knicking the edge as its clearing the can by less than a hair.
