Hi guys, a buddy of mine is looking at buying what is allegedly a Springfield Socom 2 from someone he works with who is getting divorced. It is supposedly brand new with only about 50 rounds through it. The asking price is very cheap, which makes me wary. I am going to try and take a look at it before he pulls the trigger. Any tips on what I should look for aside from normal wear and tear? I assume that if it is indeed a Springfield it will be evident by the stamp on the receiver.

I am hardly an expert, but I plan to check for:

Damage to stock / liner
Excessive wear on internals
Any issues with the piston
Barrel wear
Any crown damage
Extractor condition

Anything else I should look for?

Look for the cheese grater front end and Socom II printed on the outside of the op rod. Mine is now in a nice USGI wood stock. I fell for the advertizement when they first came out about bringing enough gun to a fight. Much more fun to shoot now that there is less of it.
