Socom 16 R. Sight Install ?

I just ordered a new rear elevation knob for the Socom 16. I know how to install the part, but how do I set up the rear sight? Something that might throw a curve is that the front sight is .781" tall, it's not stock! The trijicon thing was too wide, so I got one from an M-14, and then modified it a bit.

Stainless: here's a link to a thread I just saw on that very subject:
Socom Front Sight options with factory gas lock/muzzle brake. (Pic heavy)

It seems you aren't the only one that wants a narrower front sight...

Stainless 1911,
Nice mod on the front sight.
The ingenuity of our forum members never ceases to amaze me.

Here is Tonyben's rear sight tutorial;
m14forum.com/reference/86160-tutorial-gi-rear-sight-now-sai-too-assembly-disassemby-adjustment-pic-heavy.html

A good resource to have is Walt Kuleck and Clint McKee's The M14 Complete Assembly Guide.

With a taller blade you will notice you will have to raise the rear aperture. I had to raise it when I installed the M79 front sight. So once you get it sighted in you can adjust the elevation knob to match. With your proprietary height the markings for elevation may not match actual yardage beyond your zero. You may need to keep a log on what the actual markings are once your zeroed in.

Nice set up.
I put a tech sight on my front and then installed a fiber optic front sight.

It is fast aquisition and easy to find with old eyes

Thanks. I got the elevation knob installed. Is there a thread to show me how to get it set up before I go to the range?
