That being said I think you will be happiest with the premier reticles heritage its a great scope for what you are intending.
Also any offering from night force, or from US optics would be just fine. depends on your wallet.
I went with a weaver 1-5x scope for my m1a. because i good a good deal, and i can't afford a really great piece of glass, but weavers are really good optics.
this is defiantly the most asked question that has no real answer, but thats my opinion.
I have never regret buying my trijicon scope. not even for a second, when you look through those high dollar scopes just before the sun goes down, on high magnification, you know where all the money went.
if you have unlimited funds I would go Nightforce, USO, Shimdt&Bender, Leupold MK4 etc...
If you have a beer pocket book like me .... Leupold VX1 or VX2, or VX3 first choice depending on your $s.
Nikon prostaff 2nd choice with the BDC reticle. or a little cheaper without the bdc.
all these have excellent optics with light gathering coated lenses that help in foggy lowlight conditions. I have hunted with the VX1, VX2, VX3, and the Nikon prostaffs. I won't say anything negative about any of them. they work and work in wet rainy conditions. all of these are durable scopes if you take care of them. If you don't take care of them the most expensive will still break.
if your budget is $1500 hands down a US Optics ST10 you can add some nice options best glass you will ever see thru IMO for that dollar range, people you have to remember the troy a is modular chassis you can make it what you want cqb or long range with the addition of a prs and sniper palm rest grip or cqb with a folding stock
I've seen it mentioned many times in regards to the M1A/M14 platform. The energy generated by the normal cycling is extremely hard on optics. I would strongly consider that when purchasing.
I love my ACOG. Great for mid range shooting out to at least 600m. If you want something that is simple, it's worth a look. No batteries and no mil dots. Just line up and shoot. It's tall though.
I have a Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 3.5-10x M5 and it's awesome! Like others have said before its all got to due on how much you are willing to spend. My next choice would be a Nightforce or U.S. Optics scope...
My brother has a Trij 1-4 on his SOCOM 16 (in a VLTOR stock). I shot it in a reflexive scenario and loved it. I hit everything within 25 yards every single time and I had never shot his gun before. Then when he and I went to the formal 100 yard range with my EBR - he was shooting sub MOA with his gun (only slightly less impressive than my EBR with a NF 3.5x15x50). Now I'll have to admit, I couldn't do that with his gun because I'm not half the shooter he is, but that is a capability that set up has with a good shooter behind the gun. He did say that it was a little bit more of a challenge because it has the illuminated triangle vice cross-hairs...just giving you a data point. I wouldn't hesitate putting the Trij 1-4 on true battle rifle like his. (edit - it should also be known that he also has the Trij on an A.R.M.S 18 scope mount)
I saw this Leupold scope what was variable scope, and there was reticle on some Nato ammo i think, 100-800m if i remember right.
If u could get one of those to my M14 that would be cool.
That is shame all good items are made there in states, but we cannot get anything..
BTW what kinda scopes US military uses on M14 nowdays in real combat ?
I've seen pictures with aimpoint, acog and some scopes, but those scopes are usualy paited over so hard to tell what those are, maybe leupold or Nightforce or something.
