| Range report, with problems
This weekend I took my EBR out to the range to sight in the rifle with my Nikon scope. I attempted to to use a bore-sight Identical to this one http://www.basspro.com/Laserlyte-Uni...t/55317/118752 But because of the length of the flash hider, this particular bore sight is not long enough. So that being said, I had to zero in this thing without one. This is my first day of shooting this M1A with optics, before it was all Iron sights.
So I am at the 25 Yard lane to sight in the scope hoping that my shots were getting on paper. I took aim at the center of my target, and nothing. I adjust the elevation knob up a couple clicks followed by another shot and again nothing. About this time one of the range-masters sees my trying to get on paper. He asks me to shoot at the berm between the targets to see if he sees any dirt move. I take the shot and again nothing. We then figure out my rounds are going into the ground below the target stand.
Again, the elevation knob on this Nikon is rotated all the way up. The range-master thinks that the Nikon sitting my Larue mount lifts the scope too high above the bore. The rings are medium height,1' and I believe they are Burris brand.
At this point my scope, this scope here. The elevation knob is rotated as far up as it goes. Here is my target, The holes you see toward the bottom of the target is me aiming above the diamond top.
Half of the holes near the center of the diamond is me aiming at the very top of the vertical red line toward the very top of the paper. The other half in the diamond is me using Irons with the scope off.
Is my scope mounted too high or is the problem with the scope? Am I using a scope that is just not compatible with my Chassis and mount?
Ammunition used was PMC 147 gr .308 and Georgia Arms 150gr ballistic tip. I am very frustrated and could use some good advise.
Thanks in Advance,
Mike

Easy fix. Get Burris Signature rings with the inserts.

No expert here.. but it doesn't look too high. Just for fun, you might try reversing rings.

I have the laser boresite that fits in the chamber, but what I did was set the rifle up, take the top half of the rings off and just set the scope on the bottom rings and then see what I needed to do get the scope to match. I had to put a 1/16" shim on the back ring.

Sometimes you do have to shim and monkey around with things. I've had lots of fun mounting optics on some of my rifles. Leupold Zero Point device attaches by a strong magnet to the end of your barrel and can be adjusted up or down depending on the height of your scope. It's $62 quite often and makes setting up a scope alot nicer than an arbor type. I've gotten my scopes zeroed to within 3 inches of the target center with the first shot. It's not dependant on caliber and it doesn't matter what type of barrel you have either. Burris signature rings are the way to go and I've used them on a few rifles as well.

That guy,
I cannot help you on the scope but will advise on the ammo.
First, ditch the Georgia Arms ammo. Two things I found wrong on the batch I got a few fears ago. Excessive headspace and the cases where not chamfered or deburred. Besides that, my Socom never shot them that well.
On the other side my rifle loves PMC Bronze 308B. When I chrono'd them they gave me a S.D. in the single digits.
Your rifle looks good and I like the set up. I hope you get the bugs worked out.

Could be a few things... rings, scope, mount and even the chassis. It shoots good with irons so the action in the chassis is good.
Are the top rail's screws torqued to 65 in-lbs?
Is the LaRue mount parallel to the barrel?
Are the rings parallel to the barrel?
Try flipping the rings front to back if those three things are close.

I have a set of 30mm Larue low rings that a friend lent to me long ago. I just ordered the ring inserts for my 1" scope.
I'm going to try that next time at the range, I just dont know when I'll have the time off to get back to the range.

Well, I'd suggest getting the cartridge bore site ( that fits in the chamber- $20 at CTD) and at least get it in the ballpark at home.

I do my boresighting with a dentists mirror which came with the toothpaste. Works fine, I can adjust the POA within a few cm at 100m.
