seems like gun newbies these days think of bore sight and they think of a laser device.. thats not how bore sighting came about.

The method for bore sighting traditionally is to remove the bolt (from a bolt action gun) and then look through the bore and line up the target in the barrel. then put your crosshairs on in the middle of the target.

with a dentist mirror you can achieve this same simple method with a semi automatic firearm.

I first fix the rifle on a sturdy table with a padded vice. Then I place a white paper plate in front of a dark background, in my case its the slope of a a dyke, about 100m away. Loosening the vice and moving it in small steps to find the plate, looking through the barrel with the dentists mirror, is the tricky part. Once you can see the plate, placing it in the middle of of the barrel opening, you only have to adjust the scope until you have the reticle on the plate. The difference between line of boresight and point of impact is only a few centimeters, not more than a palm.
