First m-14 build

Hi. I am new to the forum and Im about to modify my Springfield m1a scout. I have pretty much settled on putting it in the Troy MCS chassis. I am curious about a few things that I have gotten contradictory information on.

-Will shooting .308 harm the rifle? ( I have a buddy who swears shooting .308 will damage the op rod)
-What are the most important internal components to replace for maximum funciton and durability of the rifle?
-And any other helpful information pertinant to my build...

No .308 Winchester will not hurt your M-1A they are head spaced to work with .308 and 7.62x51 NATO. However a good rule of thumb is to never shoot bullets heavier than 168 grains or that may indeed screw up your oprod...
