You are very welcome I thought it was important to share. Without brave men and women like him we would never know the dangers that came with these weapons.
I wonder how many of those men came down with cancer due to radiation later on in their lives? I have a patient who was there who had cancer and he believed it was from exposure to the radioactive fallout following the test.
Crossroads-Able was a weapons effects test. The bomb was dropped from an operational B-29 assigned to an operational Bomb Wing by an operational crew. They missed the the target, the USS Nevada painted orange, by over a mile.
Crossroads Able was a bust.
It is interesting to read something from someone who was actually there.
A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. We didn't know then what we were unleasing and I'm not so sure we really know yet. Brave men paid the price for what we did learn. May God bless each and every one of them for what they did. Thanks, Arctic.
The government was going for the big blast. Even the scientists that built the bomb did not realize the extent of radiation poisoning and that it may be more dangerous than the blast itself. -Lloyd BEERCHUG1
